DIRECTOR'S CORNER
HAPPY INTERDEPENDENCE DAY!
By Devorah Servi

ChaiVillageLA is built upon the belief that with the proper support, older adults can “age in place,” i.e. remain active while living at home.  While one of the American values central to the founding of this country is independence, we also recognize the reality of our interdependence.

I find it heartwarming when members call me with a concern about another member who is dealing with health challenges, needs technology support or even might just benefit from a friendly visit or call.  I encourage you to continue doing this (with the member’s permission, of course).

In addition, please don’t hesitate to contact me on your own behalf anytime ChaiVillageLA members could be there for you.  Our 100 trained volunteers are eager to serve!  We work very closely with the clergy teams and the Caring Committees of both of our temple partners to multiply our combined impact.

May we continue to go from strength to strength!

You will also examine such magazines as The New Yorker, The Atlantic, The New Republic and other journals that give in-depth coverage of current topics. TECHNOLOGY CORNER
ChaiVillageLA has an App!

Do you like using Apps on your smart phone or tablet?
If so, then you are in luck because our village has a great one.

What can you do with the ChaiVillageLA app?

     * Sign up for an event or see who else is registered
     * Request a service such as a ride to the doctor or a bowl of chicken soup
     * Volunteer to help another member or the village office
     * Make a donation
     * See photos of recent village events
     * View referrals to member-recommended local businesses
     * ...and much more!

How do I get the App?

If you have a smart phone or tablet, tap the icon for the Apple App Store or the Android App Store, depending on the type of device you have. Type in ChaiVillageLA. A light blue ChaiVillageLA icon will appear. All you have to do is tap Open.
Is it free?  Yes!

How do I use it?  Although the app looks very similar to our website, it works just a little differently.  When you tap the globe on the top of any page, you will see categories such as “Home,” “Events,” and “Contact Us” in white type. Click on any one of these categories and you will see a list of available pages.

You can also tap the icons at the bottom of every screen.  The 3rd one is the Directory, where you can search for other members and even send them an email.  The 5th one is the event calendar where you can sign up for events.

If you want to go back to the home page, just click the house icon in the top left corner.
Is it OK if I just use the website?   Absolutely – all village information can be found on both the website and the app.
What if I have trouble using the app?   ChaiVillageLA member, Sue Rosenblum, has offered to assist people with any issues they may have with the app.

You may contact her at (310) 842-8413, or at [email protected] with any additional questions.
