Listening to Your Inner Voice Through Journaling
Session 1 of 3

Thursday, June 1, 2017, 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM
Location to be sent upon event registration

Journaling is a powerful tool that is SOOOOO easy to do. And you don’t have to be a writer to do it. All you must do is capture your thoughts in the moment.

We will cover topics such as:

  • Learning what journaling is, how to do it, and the many benefits it reaps
  • Dealing with resistance to journaling
  • Silencing your inner critic
  • Asking for solutions to challenges you face and listening for them in your writing
  • Strengthening your journaling practice

This 3-part series gives time each week devoted to an element of journaling, time sharing your own process, and time doing your own journaling.

Everyone is welcome. Bring your favorite pen or pencil and paper, or laptop or iPad -- whatever works for you. A commitment is requested for all three dates:  June 1st, 15th, and 29th.

There will be an 8-person maximum enrollment in this class, so first come, first served!

This discussion group focuses on the news of the week.  Participants share articles and opinions that pertain to what's happening both in the United States and Internationally, and particularly to introduce diverse views.  Many of the "pundits" we analyze write for the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times.  You will also examine such magazines as The New Yorker, The Atlantic, The New Republic and other journals that give in-depth coverage of current topics.  This is your chance to listen and be heard on the events of the day.

The class is taught by Village member, Myrna Hant.  Myrna received her PhD in Higher Education from UCLA.  She was a college administrator as well as an instructor in Women's Studies at Chapman University.

Basic Drawing 3-Part Series with Dr. Ruth Weisberg

Don’t miss this ***amazing*** opportunity to learn with village member, Dr. Ruth Weisberg.

She is an artist, Professor of Fine Arts, and former Dean of the Roski School of Art & Design at the USC. Dr. Weisberg also directs USC’s Initiative for Israeli Arts and Humanities. Her work is included in sixty major museums, among them the Metropolitan, the Whitney, and the Art Institute of Chicago and she is the recipient of numerous awards.

NOTE:  This is the first in a series of 3 classes: June 13, July 6, and August 1. Please register for each class separately.

Our focus will be on drawing based on observation. We will learn to see in a new way. We will begin with building skills for the depiction of contours, volumes, and shading. We will investigate how light affects form and how this can be captured to create illusionistic representations of objects in space. Continuing emphasis on shading and mark-making techniques will take place through the exploration of the human form.

Dr. Weisberg will bring art materials which will cost about $25 per person, payable at the first class.  Additionally, there will be the opportunity to draw using a live model during the second class and this will cost approximately $3 to $5 per person, depending upon the number enrolled.
