Hopewell Middle School
Spring Gift Card Campaign

Continuing our focus on children, the DWM is seeking your support once again to fund gift cards to be used as rewards by the principal at Hopewell Middle School.

To "jolt" your memory---we donate a $5 gift card to Hopewell Middle School and they in turn let the students earn the card with good behavior.  It works very well with the program and so we are asking you to donate as many $5's as you feel you can.  We will take the money, buy the gift cards and give them to the principal.

If you are so moved, please make your checks out to RRCC and put gift cards on the memo line and wallah, you have helped a student in his or her success. Feels good, doesn't it?

You can place your offering in the plate on Sunday marked "Hopewell."

Thank you for your support in this project in serving our mission, "Embracing Our Neighbors with Christ-Like Love!"
This Sunday at RRCC

Matthew 5:38-48
"Regardless of Friendliness or Hostility"

This passage contains a seemingly impossible "To Do" list: turn the other cheek, give up your cloak, walk the extra mile, don't refuse a beggar, love your enemies, pray for those who persecute you, be perfect. Loving without worldly distinctions or reactions is Christ-like love. This is how we are to embrace our neighbors. The emphasis is not on achieving moral flawlessness, but rather on loving without partiality.
Mark Your Calendar for February 19th

calendar-banner.jpg The Guiding Board is happy to report that RRCC is beginning 2017 with a balanced budget, having closed the books on 2016. Everyone is invited to attend a brief financial summary after the benediction on Sunday, February 19th.
WORSHIP SERVE GROW
What is our mission?
EMBRACING OUR NEIGHBORS WITH CHRIST-LIKE LOVE.
How do we fulfill that mission?
We WORSHIP. We SERVE. We GROW.

Thank you to all who helped make our all-church luncheon and our ministries fair come together on Sunday. The chancel choir did a beautiful job decorating the fellowship hall and preparing the food. It was a Valentine's lunch, Italian style! And thank you also to our Vision Team and other congregational leaders, who prepared and led the ministries fair right after the lunch.

The purpose of the ministries fair was not only to give congregational leaders an opportunity to talk to members about what they do and how people can get involved; but it was also intended to be an event where everyone might be able to see that everything we do at RRCC falls into three broad areas, which we call "Strategies."  These three Strategies are WORSHIP, SERVE, and GROW. As you can see, each of these strategies has its own color.

WORSHIP IS GOLD! Gold reminds us of the preciousness of our relationship with God. When we worship we get a glimpse of the divine-God's "kingdom come, on earth as it is in heaven..." The New Jerusalem described in Revelation 21 has streets of pure gold.

     Worship is: touch heaven time.
Worship is: cultivate your relationship with Christ time.
Worship is: re-charge your spiritual batteries time.

In our congregational life here at Round Rock Christian Church, our corporate (or group) worship happens at 11:00 a.m on Sunday mornings; and it happens at 6:30p.m. on Wednesday evenings. Beyond those two opportunities, many who are a part of the Chancel Choir or the Praise Team find that their weekly rehearsal time is a form of worship. And worship also happens individually in other settings--when we read the Bible and pray at home or maybe on a work break...  Worship is one of our three mission strategies. WORSHIP IS GOLD!

SERVE IS RED!  It is the life-blood of how we respond to all of the blessings of worship and Bible study and fellowship. Serve is how we reach out with Christ-like love to people both within the church family and beyond. All of the ministries listed under Community Outreach-such as the Literacy Program and Trunk N Treat and Handcrafters and Round Rock Area Serving Center-are a part of our SERVE ministry. Everything under Congregational Care-such as Bereavement Team, Shut-In Ministry; Handymen and our Caring Hearts prayer ministry-are primarily addressing needs within our own congregational family. Further, there are many ways to serve through our Property Ministry-making small repairs around the church, maintaining the church grounds, and prioritizing improvement projects, for example. This congregation, Round Rock Christian Church, has a natural love for this strategy. We have a LOT of serve ministries...lots of ways to get involved! We are eager to take on needs as they arise.  SERVE IS RED!

GROW IS GREEN! That's a natural connection we make by simply observing God's beautiful created world growing around us. We grow spiritually through study and fellowship.  Wonderful examples are Sunday School classes. We learn about God primarily and most importantly from the Bible. We learn from theologians and writers as well. And in a small Sunday School Class or prayer group, we have a great opportunity for intimate fellowship-sharing our lives with each other-supporting one another-Christian fellowship.

We grow not only by being informed, but also by being transformed.

That is, we learn...we grow in understanding...we become better informed. But we also nurture our souls and our human relationships through being together-fellowship.

That is why, in the area of grow we find not only Sunday School classes; prayer groups, and the Overcomers on Wednesday night; but also DWM; Disciples Men; and All-Church luncheons, where great fellowship can happen. GROW IS GREEN!

All three strategies are essential to our life together as a church. All three are vital to our mission. Some balance is needed. As a congregation, and as individuals, we need to be working towards a nice balance in our three strategy areas. If we worship and study regularly, but aren't reaching out in service, James has some words for us: Faith without works is dead. (James 2:26)  If we are involved with lots of serve ministries but rarely attend worship or Sunday School, we will eventually get burned out. If we worship and serve regularly but don't take advantage of opportunities to grow spiritually through Bible study and fellowship, our relationship with God and with others won't be as strong as it could be.

Are you "balanced" in these three strategy areas? Do you spend some time in all three every week? Do you think RRCC is "balanced" as a congregation in these three strategy areas? Are we offering opportunities for our members to embrace our neighbors with Christ-like love through all three of these strategies?

Peace in Christ,
Pastor Mitch

Disciples Men Sweethearts Breakfast

Many thanks to Charles Scarborough for all of the work he did prior to the annual "Sweetheart Breakfast" hosted by the Disciples Men. Also, a huge thanks to Paul Maybaum, Steve Osteen, Rudy Camarillo, and all who helped with the preparation of the meal.

Fifty two people (all time record) attended and enjoyed a delicious breakfast with fun and comradery.  The ladies and men present enjoyed everything along with beautiful music provided by Jimmy on the keyboard.

First time visitors totaled 17.  We pray that our Disciples Men people and other church members will strive to get these people to come to church on Sundays so we may continue to share God's love with them.  The next men's breakfast is scheduled for Saturday, March 11th at 8:30 a.m. Planned work projects following the meal include re-covering the foyer chairs and prepping/painting the outside fellowship hall staircase.
Youth News

This Sunday we are doing a unique activity in Youth Group, called a Silent Meeting.  We meet in complete silence for the two hours of our meeting.  Prayers before our meal will be silent, there will be no conversation during our meal, and then we will put together an Amazing Grace puzzle in silence too!

This is unique as it allows time to reflect and observe things we may not see when conversations are flowing around us.  Silent prayer in groups can also be a unique experience.  If you are around Sunday during Youth Group time, please be mindful of our time of silence.

See you Sunday!

Projector Project: Over and Above Giving
$1272 Raised Towards Our Goal!

With the need to replace the three aging projectors in the sanctuary the Worship Ministry has a goal to have new projectors in place for Easter week services.  Our Guiding Board has approved the request of the Worship Ministry to establish a Projector Project fund as there are no resources within the current budget to tap for this expense of approximately $1700.

How might you participate in this project?  A check in the offering plate with notation on the MEMO line: projector project.  Should you wish to make a donation in memory or in honor of a loved one please note that as well either on the check or with an attached note. Those memorial funds will be acknowledged in the RRCC binder, In Remembrance; however the monies will be placed in the projector fund account.  All check donations with memo line identification will be included on the members Record of Giving statement.

Gary Collier has researched needs based upon the size of our sanctuary and will oversee the purchase and installation.  Randy Preston is the Worship Ministry liaison and person to contact should there be questions.  Please open your heart to this project.  To ensure that the projectors are in place on April 1, please consider contributing during the next few weeks.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far!  $428 left to raise!
Food Pantry Focus For February - Macaroni & Cheese!

This month our food pantry focus is on Macaroni and Cheese!  Your donations will benefit the Round Rock Area Serving Center; and help to feed families in need within our community.

This is a great opportunity to embrace our neighbors with Christ-like love!  Let's overflow the food pantry donation shelves in the foyer with this old-time favorite!

You may also make a financial donation to the Serving Center through your offering Sunday.  Just mark "RRSC" on the memo line and your financial donations will be sent to the Serving Center right along with the boxes of macaroni and cheese.

Proverbs 22:9 A generous person will be blessed,
for he gives some of his food to the poor.

Disciple Oaks Camp & Retreat Workday - February 25, 2017

Our first workday of 2017 is scheduled for Saturday, February 25th.  Come join your friends from the Area as we work at our campground in Gonzales.  We will start at 8:00 a.m. and work until about 3:00 p.m.  LUNCH PROVIDED!

If you need to spend the night Friday or Saturday at camp, you can also do that for free.  We will need to stay in the dorms as I have a group booked in the Lodge.  There are a few good restaurants in town you can check out for dinner and breakfast.

Our main task for this workday will be clearing brush in front of the director's house and along the pond as you enter the campground.  One side of the pond has already been cleared.  We might even have some painting and organizing storage areas to work on as well.  So grab your weed eaters, chainsaws, gloves, tree cutters, and hedge clippers and come on out!

Contact Rev. Scott Miller at (830) 437-2900 or [email protected] and let him know you are coming.

Elders Prayer Corner/Closing Message

Find the Secret of Stability!

Isaiah 33:6 And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD is his treasure.

Have you ever felt uneasy, unsettled or unstable? Or maybe a better question is -- who hasn't? How do we overcome these feelings? This is what George Muller wrote in His diary on May 9, 1841:

"Now, I saw that the most important thing I had to do was to give myself to the reading of the Word of God, and to meditation on it, that thus my heart might be comforted, encouraged, warned, reproved, instructed...by breakfast time, with rare exceptions, I am in a peaceful if not happy state of heart."

The word faith in Hebrew is "emunah" (em-oo-nah). But interestingly, the word stability in the verse above is the Hebrew word, 'emunah"! Faith and stability are linked one to another. How do we become more stable and settled despite the circumstances surrounding our lives? By gaining faith! "Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God."

When we search for wisdom and knowledge in His word, we become more stable in our walk -- and in our lives! Let's aim to spend more time in the Word and gain more stability in our lives.

Prayer: Your Word, O God, is a treasure of wisdom and knowledge and when it is planted in our hearts, it is a source of peace and stability in our lives. Increase our faith through Your Word that we might stand through any circumstance in our life. In Jesus' name.
