Fellowship Luncheon This Sunday, January 8th - Stay to Eat and Stay to Serve!

This Sunday, January 8th, will be the first fellowship luncheon of 2017!  Please make plans to stay and dine together as we kick off the new year.  The lunch will be sponsored by DWM and feature a feast of fried chicken and all the sides.  Plus, we always have plenty of desserts!

Once you've finished eating you can then head over to the Sanctuary to help serve the Church by lending a hand to pack up the Advent decorations for the year.  The more hands we have, the easier the job.  We need to be packed up and cleaned up no later than 2pm so we can welcome the Sunday afternoon Church into the building at 2:30pm.

Please plan to stay to eat and serve this Sunday!
This Sunday at RRCC

"Resolute Representatives from a World in Need"
Matthew 2:1-12

The message will focus on how focused the magi must have been to make such a difficult and dangerous journey to worship a king and offer him gifts.

Monday, January 9, 2017, 9:30am

Ladies, mark your calendar for the first DWM meeting of the New Year on Monday, January 9, at 9:30 AM. Diane Breeding is refreshment hostess.

We will continue our bible study series, The Table and Beyond: Lavish Hospitality in the Bible . Linda Glover will facilitate the bible study this month, titled "Shake off the Dust From Your Feet" The text of this lesson is Matthew 10: 1-15. Please read the text and the lesson from the study guide Lesson 4, pages 31-36 .

In Matthew's gospel Jesus sends out his disciples to expand his mission. They are now called apostles, and are completely dependent on the hospitality of the ones Jesus has sent them to serve. There will be a lively discussion of the theme as we explore the passage from Matthew 10, and  consider what our credentials are as 21 st Century apostles.

Please join the group at 9:30am for fellowship, bible study and discussion of our winter DWM service projects.
Hopewell Middle School "Mentoring Program"

We have an exciting opportunity to further "Embrace our neighbors with Christ-like love" through a new partnership program with Hopewell Middle School!  Lynda Garinger, the new Principal at Hopewell Middle School, has suggested a partnership with RRCC in which we would match a "Mentor" with a student in need. Specifically, the school counselors have identified students who are "at risk" of not being successful in school or not staying in school without more support than they currently have. A "Mentor" would serve as a friend to meet with the student once a week or so and just spend one on one time for 30 minutes to an hour.  The time spent could be during lunch, to eat together, or at other times to "shoot hoops", take a walk or just spend time talking.  No experience is needed! We are not "counselors" but role models/friends.  The counselors will give us guidance and "assign" specific students to specific mentors.  We just need to know who has the heart to help with these students!

Tyler Bacchi (our great drummer!) has volunteered to coordinate this program and has requested volunteers to contact him if you are interested!  His email address is [email protected].

Our special thanks to Tyler, Tasha, Anne Marie and Gayle for being the first volunteers!

We hope many others will want to invest themselves in this program and "be called" to make a significant difference in the life of a middle school student!  We are scheduling a meeting with the school to get further details and hopefully begin this program this month!

Youth News

null We will have our first meeting of 2017 this Sunday, January 8th, following the fellowship luncheon.  We will eat together at the luncheon and then go over the schedule for the Winter/Spring, which ends in May.

Next week, on Wednesday, January 11th, I hope to start the Youth Bible Study on Wednesday evenings from 6:15pm to 7:15pm.  This will be all ages, but mostly for elementary to middle school age.  High school age will be welcome, and act more as student leaders in this study.  I would like to get a count of how many will be interested; so if your child would like to attend, please let me know by email or by text.  We will need at least 2-3 solid and committed participants to make this study possible each week.  Please let me know by Sunday if your child will attend.  If you are in Choir your child can move to the childcare room with our nursery attendants after the Bible study if needed until 8:30pm.

See you all on Sunday!

Food Pantry For January - SOUPS!

You can continue to help one of the 18,206 households that benefited from the assistance of the Round Rock Serving Center from January to November of 2016!  This month RRCC will focus our donations on Soups to donate to the Serving Center's pantry.

Your donations will go to help those 18,206 families who received 10,103 food vouchers from January to November!

Every can of soup is needed and will make a difference to someone in need.  Soup is a warm and filling meal during these colder months!  Yes, it's warm now, but it will be cold again soon!

Rest

Rest in my radiant presence. The world around you seems to spin faster and faster, till everything is a blur. Yet there is a cushion of calm at the center of your life, where you live in union with Me. Return to this soothing Center as often as you can, for this is where you are energized: filled with My Love, Joy and Peace.

The world is a needy place; do not go there for sustenance. Instead come to Me. Learn to depend on Me alone, and your weakness will become saturated with My Power. When you find your completeness in Me, you can help other people without using them to meet your own needs. Live in the Light of My Presence, and your light will shine brightly into the lives of others."

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, and faithfulness." - Galatians 5:22

"No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us."  - 1 John 4:12
