Food Pantry For December
RRCC's food pantry focus for December is CANNED FRUIT. As you add this item to your weekly grocery list, may it remind you not only that you will be providing physical nourishment, but also that you will be sharing the fruit of the Spirit:
"...the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control."
(Galatians 5:22-23)

Thank You!
I want to express my gratitude to the many people who stepped up to meet various responsibilities while I was out of town last week, especially for the Hanging of the Greens service on Sunday. How nice it is to know that there are so many dedicated and capable people in the church who will come forward to to do what needs to be done. Thank you, Round Rock Christian Church!
It had been almost a year since our five family members had been able to be together, so Kumi and I felt very blessed to be with all three of our children at the same time. My parents, both 81, are in good health, though they were both battling bad head colds they had picked up in a group bus tour to Branson, Missouri. Families like to share things, including illnesses, and unfortunately I seem to be the latest casualty of that particular rhinovirus.
The wedding was beautiful. My sister Martha married Matt, a wonderful man that I am proud to call my new brother-in-law. I met his two older brothers at the wedding for the first time, and discovered that the spouse of one of them was a high school classmate. That is an interesting dynamic when people you went to school with many years ago become relatives. I like it!
Some of you have been asking about my thyroid condition. I will meet with a surgeon tomorrow (Wednesday the 30th) for a consultation regarding a possible partial or full thyroidectomy. I will keep you informed, and of course I appreciate your prayers.
See you Sunday!
Peace in Christ,
Mitch

Advent Candle Stand Dedication
Our traditional Advent ring of candles representing Hope, Faith, Joy and Love surrounding the Christ candle has a special place of honor this year.
At the request of the Worship Ministry and approval of the Guiding Board, Memorial Fund monies were used to purchase this lovely wood and brass holder for our Advent candles in memory of members of our church family whose lives touched each of us.
This year we said farewell to Jim Harmel, Jim Jackson, and Rosemary Walgreen. They led by example, they served without hesitation. In this small way we honor and remember each person.

December Fellowship Luncheon - Fried Chicken!
DWM will host the December Luncheon on Sunday, December 11th, and provide a meal of Fried Chicken with all the sides. Please come out and stay after Worship to dine together for the last time of 2017! We have had a great time this last year at each luncheon - from the fellowship to the food to the funds raised to offset our mortgage payment each month. Thank you to all who have dined, donated and served!

Advent Bible School - Continues Sunday!
It was a great first afternoon of Advent Bible School with twelve children in attendance! ABS will be held for two more Sundays; December 4th and December 11th, from 2:30pm to 4:30pm in the Fellowship Hall side of RRCC.
This program is for children ages 3 years through 5th grade. It is FREE! This year our focus is on The Gift of Advent.
The Gift Of Advent is a curriculum designed to give children a biblical understanding of Christmas...from the garden - to the manger - to the cross. Each lesson focuses on a new gift that comes as a result of God's ultimate Gift - Jesus!
Even if you missed the first Sunday, you can still attend the next two Sundays!

Youth News
What a relaxing day we had together on Sunday afternoon! We snacked on movie popcorn and watched Elf together to get in the holiday spirit. Elf is a hilarious movie; and family-friendly! The Youth highly recommend this movie if you're looking for a fun holiday film to give you some laughs!
This coming Sunday, December 4th, we will not have Youth Group right after Church. Instead we will meet at Church at 4:30pm to leave for Burnet and head to First Baptist Church for their Main Street Bethlehem experience. They open at 6pm so we will first stop for dinner on the way. Please bring money to eat if you are able. This is an outdoor event, so please dress warm (predicted temperatures are only a high of 57 and low of 42!) In the event that it's raining on Sunday, our trip will be postponed until the next Sunday (the event closes if there is rain.)
Anyone who wishes to join the Youth is welcome! This is a really neat experience and the Church does a great job of portraying Bethlehem. At the end of the walk they serve free hot chocolate and cookies! If you wish to join us, please meet at 4:30pm here at Church to carpool. We anticipate returning around 8pm...Youth will text their parents on our way back to let you know an exact time for us to return.

We Love Our RRCC Staff!
RRCC is blessed to have a dedicated staff. We feel it with the pastoral care that we are given and the love that is extended to our little ones. We hear it in the music each week, and we see it in the cleanliness of our facilities. We appreciate daily office operations and careful bookkeeping. Each year during Advent, we have an opportunity to extend our gratitude to our staff through a Love Offering. If you would like to contribute to this gift from the congregation,
please place your donation in the offering tray, marked "Staff Love Offering" no later than December 19. Questions? Contact our Personnel Committee: Barbara Barnett, Kent Toomey, Gary Tucker. Thank you!

Elders Prayer Corner/Closing Message
Scripture: Philippians 1:9-10
And this is my prayer, that your love may overflow more and more with knowledge and full insight to help you to determine what is best.
Advent is a time of preparing to welcome again God's gift of love shown in Jesus Christ. We Christians are to prepare ourselves as we look forward to the coming of Jesus Christ.
It is now December, then Christmas day is coming. During this time, we are bombarded with ads that tell us: "buy more! Make those around you grateful!" Paul reminds us from prison of the need for gratitude. How do we counter messages of consumerism and prepare to live with "what is best"- a sense of gratitude, "enough," even abundance? Gratitude for abundance acknowledges the necessities of material items for our daily living. As Paul does, giving thanks for the material ways in which he is sustained by those bringing food to his prison pit (prisoners were not fed enough in those days). At the same time, Paul reminds us that it is ultimately the gospel message of love, unity and grace that leads to abundant life.
Prayer:
Dear God, may we continue to live in love, that your name may be magnified. Amen
