Trunk N Treat Volunteer Update
Candy Needed, Too!

Special thanks to our RRCC members who have "stepped-forward" to volunteer to coordinate components of Trunk n Treat! We strongly believe that this year's event will continue to improve and hope to top the 400 attendees we estimated came last year!

Advertising and Publicity:   Dan Knight  (with help from Emmiline Greene and Christina Harmel)

Face-painting:  Kumi Maxted (with help from Mana Maxted)

Food:  Tricia Mouser (with help from Linda Preston, Tara Pollock, and Jean Bell)

Games:  Katie Maybaum (with help from the youth and other volunteers that we're looking for!)

Logistics/Layout:  Steve Osteen (with help from other volunteers that we're looking for!)

Photo Booth/Photography:  Perry Mouser (with Lisa Walker painting the back-drop!)

Cut Bait Band:  Rod Walker (with help from Dan Knight and other volunteers that we're looking for!)

The only position we really need is the over-all "Chair" of the event!!  Tricia Mouser has volunteered to "co-chair" this year, however, needs a co-chair due to her being unavailable most of the period between now and Halloween. (Give Tricia a call to discuss it! It isn't difficult!!!) Please prayerfully consider helping with these highlighted areas and "sign-up" on the poster located in the Welcome Center

Steve Osteen will be circulating a "sign-up" sheet in the next week or two, requesting " decorated trunks" for the event.  We will also place a container in the Welcome Center to receive candy donations.  We encourage each "trunk" to bring candy, but it isn't necessary  We'll have plenty of candy donations to cover trunks.

Both Union Hill Elementary and Hopewell Middle School have indicated that they'll publicize Trunk n Treat in their October newsletters!!! (We think the addition of Union Hill publicity this year will greatly increase our participation at the event!) We'll also use this event as an opportunity to publicize our upcoming "Christmas Event", Easter, and plans into 2018.

Put Halloween on your calendar TODAY and plan to open our doors to our neighbors and make RRCC Trunk n Treat the "go to event" for the evening, for all of our neighbors!!

Matthew 20:1-16
"Generosity That Makes People Mad"

God's grace goes far beyond what we think is fair and just. Salvation is not earned by efforts but is given by grace according to a person's need.
Give Thanks!

What a joy it was to be present in worship on Sunday and hear our congregational moderator, Susan Kessler, announce that our church's mortgage has now been paid in full! Not surprisingly, the congregation broke into loud applause! (You can read her complete announcement elsewhere in this newsletter.) This is certainly an event to celebrate, and as a part of our Commitment Sunday ( October 8) activities we plan to burn a copy of the mortgage, symbolizing our church building being free of debt. I hope you will be present for that.

I thank God for the countless members, visitors, and friends of Round Rock Christian Church over the years who have been a part of the paying off of the mortgage. Think of all the hours, the energy, and the efforts that were offered to bring us to this point. Meals prepared and served, beautiful quilts made with lots of TLC, scrubbers, glass ornaments, peanut brittle, bumper stickers...contributions came in so many ways through the creativity and determination of our dedicated church family. It makes me think of the beautiful song by Henry Smith in our Chalice Hymnal, "Give Thanks."

Give thanks with a grateful heart.
Give thanks to the Holy One.
Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ, his Son.
And now let the weak say "I am strong,"
let the poor say "I am rich,"
because of what the Lord has done for us. Give thanks!

See you on Sunday!
Pastor Mitch
PAID IN FULL!  Let That Sink In!

It has been a long time coming, and it is my privilege to announce that our church mortgage has been PAID IN FULL. (Let this soak in!)

Six years ago, our mortgage balance was over $240,000, with estimated payoff date of April, 2021. One thing we know is that this congregation will respond to specific needs. This is what happened when we set our minds to mortgage elimination.

God knows the part that each one has played in reaching this milestone. Whether you have given faithfully over the past 30 years, or made peanut brittle and scrubbers and quilts and angels and crosses and meals...or bought a raffle ticket or donated for a luncheon...or walked through our door for the first time last week and put a few dollars in the offering plate. God knows, and it matters.

There have been sacrifices along the way, and belt-tightening, and budget challenges, but the response has remained steadfast.

I am convinced that this was done in God's time. Just as God is revealing to us his vision for this church, and its mission to embrace our neighbors with Christ-like love, God lifted the burden of the mortgage so that we can move forward to fulfill that mission.

Over the next few weeks you will learn more about our stewardship opportunities for 2018. Yes, the mortgage is PAID OFF (!) but now the work begins. In the meantime, the rest of 2017 still depends on everyone's tithes and offerings, as the early payoff was factored into the overall year's budget.

We will celebrate this milestone at our luncheon on October 8 and hope that everyone will join in!

Literacy Partners Needs More Volunteers!

It is time to sign up as a literacy partner volunteer. All of our volunteers from last year have re-upped so that is a sign that it is a very enjoyable experience. In fact most of us would say that we get as much out of the experience as the students. The readings begin at the end of October and go until May. You pick the days and the time range that is best for you. If there is an occasional conflict if is usually possible to come at a different time with the teacher's permission. Each volunteer is given 2 students to read with for 15 minutes each. The students read to the volunteer for 7-8 minutes and then the volunteer reads for 7-8 minutes from a book of your choice. The library staff at Union Hill is very helpful in finding books that will be enjoyed and each student has a book box with a selection that can be used. You don't have to be an expert you just have to listen and give them support while they learn. The rewards are greater than the effort expended.

Statistics have shown that if a child is not reading to grade level by 3rd grade that their chances for succeeding in school and life are slim. Please help us to help these student succeed in preparing for life after school. There are always more children that want to read than we have volunteers to help! Please join us!

If you have any questions ask Liz Maybaum or any of our current volunteers: Tricia Mouser, Pastor Mitch, Janette Johnston, Gayle Boles, Tara Pollock, and Susan Kessler.
September Food Pantry Focus:  Assorted Pasta!

"...for I was hungry and you gave me food. Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me." (Matthew 25:35, 40)

This month is "Assorted Pasta Month" at RRCC. Let's load our food pantry tub in the Welcome Center to overflowing each Sunday! Your donations of Assorted Pasta (or cash or check designated for the Round Rock Area Serving Center) will help stock empty shelves and feed hungry neighbors in our community.

Mark your grocery list every week for the Round Rock Area Serving Center.

Is This Your Table?

As we grow our Sunday School classes, we are working on the room setups and found this table in the game room (now the Chi Rho classroom.)  Is this your table?  If so, will you please arrange to take it back home with you?  If it is not your table, would you like to own it?  We would like to see it gone by September 30th if possible.   Contact the Church Office to claim it by way of ownership or desire to own!  Thank You!

We will meet this Sunday, September 24th, and watch "God's Not Dead 2."   Remember we watched the first movie together when it premiered, and it was wonderful!  We will start right away so we can finish the movie by 2:30pm.  See you at 9:30am for Sunday School and after Church for Youth Group!

Jewelry Making Class Rescheduled for September 30th, 9:30am

Darlia Hunt, Ilene Kiser and Janette Johnston will be hosting a simple earring jewelry making class at church in the open circle classroom.

Tools, beads and earring wires will be provided. If you have certain colors you want to use, you can bring your own beads. You will leave with one completed pair of earrings.

We want to see if there is interest in this as a continuing project, possibly something later to offer to the neighborhood. We don't have any absolute plans for what will happen. or if we might make jewelry in the future for fundraising. At this point it is just a beginning class.

Elders Prayer Corner/Closing Message

Cor 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that we might become the righteousness of God in him.

Yeshua (Jesus) said He is the "bread of life". It was His body that was broken on our behalf as the substitutionary sacrifice for our sins. Notice that He never once called us to be the "bread of life"! He is the ONLY "Bread of Life" - the true bread who came down from Heaven which anyone may eat and not die. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is His flesh, given for the life of the world.

We must realize that we can ADD NOTHING to His sacrifice. If we begin to believe that any good works can add to His sacrifice then we have nullified the perfection of the Messiah's work which provides our justification by faith alone, not of works lest any man should boast. [Ephesians 2:8-9]

Understanding that you cannot save yourself by any good deeds, and falling wholeheartedly upon the sacrifice of Yeshua to save you, will remove spiritual pride, as you understand that He has provided you with the righteousness and goodness which you possess as a generous gift of His Spirit.

In gratitude you will walk in His freedom, serving the Lord with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength!

Just as Adam and Eve put on fig leaves to cover their nakedness, we can try to cover our deeply corrupted sinful nature with good deeds or religious activity. None of this is of any use or value if we have not truly eaten the "Bread of Life", Yeshua the Messiah. His free gift of righteousness is the only way we can become good. Once He has provided that, we can begin to do works that are truly pleasing and of great value to our Lord.
