Food Pantry Focus for October:
Heat N Eat Meals

"...for I was hungry and you gave me food. Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me." (Matthew 25:35, 40)

This month is "Heat N Eat Meals" month at RRCC. Let's load our food pantry tub in the Welcome Center to overflowing each Sunday! Your donations of Heat N Eat Meals (or cash or check designated for the Round Rock Area Serving Center) will help stock empty shelves and help  neighbors in our community.

Are you wondering, "what exactly is a heat n eat meal?"  Well, think food items that can be quickly warmed up on the stove or in the microwave, such as:  spaghetti o's, ravioli, soups, etc.
This Sunday at RRCC

"Keeping the Community Strong"
Embracing Our Neighbors With Christ-Like Love

Thanks to all who completed and submitted the recent worship survey. Nearly everyone who was in worship on September 11 and 18 participated in the survey. Your input is appreciated!

Our Worship Ministry and our Vision Team met together on Sunday to review and prayerfully consider the responses. The primary question behind all of the information and all of the topical discussion was, "How can our worship experiences here at RRCC further our mission of embracing our neighbors with Christ-like love?" It was exciting to see the Worship Ministry and the Vision Team working together on this question. I will continue to work on this question with both groups and other congregational leaders.

Your prayers for our ongoing work are much appreciated.

Peace in Christ,
Mitch

CMF October Meeting

In the month of October CMF will meet on the third Saturday; (10/15) this month only. The Georgetown men will be preparing our breakfast, and will do the clean up also.

After we eat and have a short meeting, we will precede to remove the playground at the back of the parking lot.  Everyone is welcome.  The more the better.  This playground is no longer being used by the Church, and is an eye sore.

You will need to bring hand tools and yard tools.  We will need to bring wheel barrels  also.  We are looking for someone who would be interested in taking the rocks. If anyone knows of anyone who would want to come get the rocks please let one of the CMF members know.

Youth Group Sunday

Our Hymn Angel project is coming along nicely!  Special thanks to Rilda Scarborough for donating lunch for us this past Sunday.  And thank you to Rilda, Bea and Linda for joining the Youth in making the Angels.  We had a lot of fun!

We will be working on this project once again this Sunday, October 2nd.  If you are planning to attend, please RSVP so we can have an accurate count for lunch.  These angels will be on sale in November, just in time for the holidays!

See you Sunday!

Hopewell Middle School Gift Cards

Continuing our focus on children, the DWM is seeking your support once again to fund gift cards to be used as rewards by the principal at Hopewell Middle School.

To "jolt" your memory---we donate a $5 gift card to Hopewell Middle School and they in turn let the students earn the card with good behavior.  It works very well with the program and so we are asking you to donate as many $5's as you feel you can.  We will take the money, buy the gift cards and give them to the principal.

If you are so moved, please make your checks out to RRCC and put gift cards on the memo line and wallah, you have helped a student in his or her success. Feels good, doesn't it?

You can place your offering in the plate on Sunday marked "Hopewell."

Thanking you in advance for your support,
DWM

Serving Center Birthday Bags Needed!

Remember our drive to supply Birthday Bags to the Round Rock Serving Center?  If you recall, we were gathering supplies for, and putting together, birthday bags for clients of the Serving Center.  In the words of the Center, " Birthday bags are given to families who have a child with a birthday in the current month of their food pantry visit.  The birthday bag includes content which allows the child to have a birthday party."

This worthwhile and inexpensive project raises the spirits of not only the child, but the parent who is struggling and would not otherwise have the means to give what most of us do as a matter of course for our children.

We have heard from the Serving Center and the need for birthday bags is dire at the moment.  Could you supply a birthday bag to help a child celebrate their special day?

If you would like to contribute, look for a bin marked " Birthday Bags" in the Welcome Center.  Information sheets will be attached which explain details.  When enough supplies have been collected, DWM members will assemble (if needed) and deliver them to the Serving Center.
2016 Women's Retreat

The DWM Retreat is Oct 14-16 at Disciple Oaks; and the discounted "Early Bird Registration" must be postmarked by 9/19 to receive the discount.

Registration forms are available in the DWM "cubbie" in the church workroom.  When you've completed your form, please mail on your own to the Bluebonnet area.  (The address is on the form.)
Education Connection - Union Hill Elementary

young-boy-reading.jpg RR Christian Church started working last year with Union Hill Elementary as Literacy Partners. It involves reading to second graders, is a wonderful program and only takes about an hour of time per week. We currently have 5 volunteers and would love to have lots more!

If you sign up, you will be assigned 2 students, and you will go to Union Hill and read to and with each student for 15 minutes, for a total of 30 minutes.  You must fill out two applications, one for RRISD and one for the Education Connection:

If you have any questions, please feel free to visit with Janette Johnston, Literacy Partner Coordinator, or one of our Literacy Partners, Susan Kessler, Tricia Mouser or Gayle Boles. There is also lots of history and information on the Education Connection website. The program only started in RR year before last with 2 schools. I think there were about 6 RR schools last year, and 8 more are being added this year. The program is really growing and needs lots of help.

Training is required and dates are as listed below.  If you cannot attend either of these trainings, online training will also be made available.  RRISD Literacy Partner Training:

October 14 ( Friday),  9-11 AM, First United Methodist Church of Round Rock, 1004 N Mays St, Round Rock, TX 78664

October 15 (Saturday), 8:30 - 10:30 AM, Location TBD

Elders Prayer Corner/Closing Message

Do not be quick in spirit to be angry or vexed, for anger and vexation lodge in the bosom of fools.  - Ecclesiastes 7:9

There are some things you can control in life-who your friends are, what you eat, and when you go to bed, for example. There are other things you can't control, such as what other people say or the flat tire you got last night. The way you respond to things you can't control helps determine your stress level and your quality of life and health. I have two suggestions about dealing with things you can't control. First, if you can't control them, don't take responsibility for them. And second, I like to say, "Do your best, pray, and let God do the rest!"

People who regularly get upset over small things suffer in many ways. People who shrug them off do much better. Shrugging off certain things doesn't mean you are indifferent; it simply means you've accepted the fact that you can't do anything to change them at that time. The flat tire has already happened. Calling someone to come fix it makes sense; throwing a tantrum and kicking the tire does not. We need to deal appropriately with each stressor as it arises so that we don't end up exploding in frustration over the unavoidable bumps on the road of life.

God works in mysterious ways. You never know when He may use some inconvenience or frustration for your good. He is in control, and if you trust Him to work things out, you'll be able to ride the ups and downs of life with peace, joy, and strength.

Love Yourself Today: Refuse to live in frustration. Take life one day at a time, and when things happen that you don't like, say, "It is what it is and God is still in control."
