Tyler O_Brien Picture
New Team Leader

Tyler J. O'Brien is the new Interactive Science Specialist Team Leader with the Challenger Learning Center of Lake Erie West.  Holding to his belief that learning is a collaborative journey with both the educator and the student, Tyler brings enthusiasm and energy to the Center. He completed the necessary coursework for a life science credential through Lourdes University and is always eager to share his passion for teaching.  Tyler leads a team that includes a science educator with a back ground in earth science, a professional artist, a language arts teacher, a licensed counselor, a teacher with a special education background, and a staff member with technology and social media expertise.

NASA Out of School Learning Network

NASA Glenn Research Center has formally identified the Challenger Learning Center of Lake Erie West as a regional partner. NASA and the Challenger Learning Center are working together to meet the needs of local school districts, as well as community and youth-serving organizations. Maumee, Perrysburg, Rossford, and Springfield school districts are currently participating in the NASA Out of School Learning Network. This enrichment program provides NASA-related, project-based STEM learning experiences to students in participating districts. The NASA Out of School Learning Network will also connect NASA scientists, engineers and mission content with students.
Challenger Center Wins Giant Destination Mars Map

Through a national essay competition, the Challenger Learning Center has been awarded a Giant Destination Mars Map from ShareSpace, an organization founded by Dr. Buzz Aldrin. The 25' x 25' vinyl floor map depicts a colorful topography of Mars as well as the landing sites of Mars rover missions.  The accompanying curriculum, curated by ShareSpace, encompasses language arts, geography, math, science, space exploration, technology, and creative, innovative thinking. Look for the map to be incorporated into future Challenger Learning Center programs. For more information about the map go to http://web.sharespace.org/
Equipment Upgrades
Equipment Upgrades

The Challenger Learning Center of Lake Erie West is proud to announce the completion of upgrades that include new 21st Century Return to the Moon software as well as Voyage to the Mars programming. This upgrade includes new hardware, software, graphics and program components that will enhance the simulated experience, engaging students as they travel to work in Mission Control and on the International Space Station.
