Early Bird Ticket Deadline for Ag Gala is June 9th - Help Celebrate Area Agriculture!

The Yankton Chamber of Commerce Agri-Business Committee will hold the 12th Annual Ag Gala Tuesday, June 20 at the Pine Acres Kiwanis/4-H Ice Arena, 709 Whiting Dr. The Ag Gala honors the agricultural industry and the area ag producers who support our local economy. The event also honors agriculturally involved youth by providing them with P.A.Y scholarships.

Doors will open at 5 p.m. Guests are welcome to socialize and visit vendor booths. There will also be a silent auction during the social hour. A prime rib dinner, catered by Backroad Bar-B-Q, will be served at 6:15 p.m.

The program will begin at 7:15 p.m. with South Dakota Lieutenant Governor, Matt Michels, as the Master of Ceremonies. Promoting Agricultural Youth (P.A.Y.) Scholarships will be announced and the Agri-Business Committee will award the 2017 Farm Family of the Year.

Sponsorship opportunities are available to businesses who want to promote themselves to this important industry. Early bird tickets are $50 per person; after June 9 the tickets will be $60. Leadership Yankton Program Deadline Extended to June 8th - Scholarships Available 

The goal of the Leadership Yankton program is to develop personal leadership skills in community members and local business professionals. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the Yankton Community. The program will begin July  6 and will meet every Thursday through August 3, 2017. Sessions will be held in various locations throughout Yankton. The cost to attend is $325 for chamber members and $400 for non-members. Bring Your 'A' Game to Work - June 27 & 28

Bring Your ‘A’ Game to Work is part of a statewide effort to instill foundational behaviors and values in today’s workforce. The Department of Labor and Regulation has partnered with Cornerstones Career Learning Center to offer this soft skills training program. After completing the program, participants will understand the long-term benefits of work ethic, and set a foundation for personal and professional success.  

There are two suggested options for length; two four-hour sessions or one 8 hour session including versions for youth, adults, and veterans. This session will be Tuesday, June 27 and Wednesday, June 28 from 12:30 p.m to 4:30 p.m. at the Kanner Building, 3113 Spruce St.

Gov. Daugaard Proclaims June as "Great Outdoors Month"

Gov. Daugaard has proclaimed June as “Great Outdoors Month” in South Dakota joining with many states across the nation to celebrate the nature and resources of their states.

In the proclamation, Gov. Daugaard noted that South Dakota leads the way in encouraging families and children into the great outdoors. This celebration of the great outdoors is designed to promote safe, healthy fun and connect individuals and families to nature.
The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) provides opportunities to connect with nature through events, hikes, trails and educational programs in their continued effort to protect, enhance and care for South Dakota’s state parks. Throughout the month of June, GFP will host day camps, archery lessons, disc-golf demonstrations, kids’ fishing derbies, educational nature programs and environmental events.
Notable events taking place throughout the month of June include:
  • June 3: National Trails Day
    A day set aside to celebrate America’s magnificent trail systems and their countless supporters and volunteers. State parks across South Dakota will host trail-related events that day.
  • June 3-11: National Fishing and Boating Week
    National Fishing and Boating Week is the perfect reason to get out on the water and experience the joys of boating and fishing.
  • June 10: National Get Outdoors Day
    National Get Outdoors Day is an annual event to encourage healthy, active outdoor fun.
  • June 14-16: Becoming an Outdoors Family
    Becoming an Outdoors Family is the perfect event to get your family excited about the outdoors and all it has to offer.

The Road Trip to Rapid Raffle 

The road trip to Rapid Raffle is a fundraiser to help cover costs for the Amazon Prime Fireball Run series which will feature Yankton this September.

The Yankton Area Chamber of Commerce and The Convention and Visitor's Bureau will be selling tickets for one lucky winner to take an epic road trip with them!

Carmen & Kasi will be the exclusive tour guides for 4 days and 3 nights.  This will include the winner's travel, overnight expenses, banquets and attractions.

Tickets are $50 for individuals and $75 for a couple.  See South Dakota like never before!  Drawing will be held on August 25 at the Chamber Golf Day event.

The Missouri River Events Planning Committee is in need of volunteers for upcoming events on the FOMNRR (Friends of the Missouri National Recreational River) calendar.
