Thanking our Area Farmers

The 2017 Ag Gala was held on June 20 at the Pine Acres Kiwanis/4-H Ice Arena.  Over 250 people enjoyed a prime rib dinner catered by Backroad Bar-B-Q.  P.A.Y. Scholarships were handed out to eight graduated high school seniors:  Clay Wittmeier, Ashley Heine, Elyssa Walloch, Kordell Munkvold, Brook VanOsdel, Katie Bratberg, Jordan Kathol, and Franklin Cutts.  Silent and live auction items were sold to attendees to help raise funds for next years P.A.Y. Scholarships.  Over $25,000 was raised at this years event.  

The 2017 Farm Family award was presented to the Erickson Bye Family.  
A special award was presented from the Steve Heine Memorial Fund.  The recipient of the award was the new Yankton FFA Chapter.  Brandon Wagner, the new teacher for the chapter, was presented the check.
RIBBON CUTTING

  • Boston Shoes to Boots held their ribbon cutting Thursday, June 22 at their location in the downtown Meridian District, 312 W. 3rd Street. Boston Shoe to Boots is a century old business that carries a variety  of work boots, cowboy boots, men's & women's casual dress & dress shoes. Stop in and congratulate Brennan and Mandi!

Hobie Cats Race at Lewis & Clark Lake

The 2017 Hobie 16/20 North American Championships concluded Friday, June 23 at Lewis & Clark Lake west of Yankton.  The final day of competition was cancelled due to high winds but racers enjoyed their time at the lake.   Racers from across the United States, Mexico and Canada participated in the event. The Yankton CVB and Chamber hosted a mixer for competitors on Wednesday with a barbeque from Heck's Dakota Style Barbeque on Wednesday.

Every Thursday throughout the summer there will be a farmer's market, food trucks, live music and more! Bring Your 'A' Game to Work - June 27 & 28

Bring Your ‘A’ Game to Work is part of a statewide effort to instill foundational behaviors and values in today’s workforce. The Department of Labor and Regulation has partnered with Cornerstones Career Learning Center to offer this soft skills training program. After completing the program, participants will understand the long-term benefits of work ethic, and set a foundation for personal and professional success.  

There are two suggested options for length; two four-hour sessions or one 8 hour session including versions for youth, adults, and veterans. This session will be Tuesday, June 27 and Wednesday, June 28 from 12:30 p.m to 4:30 p.m. at the Kanner Building, 3113 Spruce St.

The Road Trip to Rapid Raffle 

The road trip to Rapid Raffle is a fundraiser to help cover costs for the Amazon Prime Fireball Run series which will feature Yankton this September.

The Yankton Area Chamber of Commerce and The Convention and Visitor's Bureau will be selling tickets for one lucky winner to take an epic road trip with them!

Carmen & Kasi will be the exclusive tour guides for 4 days and 3 nights.  This will include the winner's travel, overnight expenses, banquets and attractions.

Tickets are $50 for individuals and $75 for a couple.  See South Dakota like never before!  Drawing will be held on August 25 at the Chamber Golf Day event.
