Every year as an expression of our gratitude, the Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce hosts the Industry Appreciation Cookout for all of our exsisting industries.   Throughout the year, we are constantly working towards recruiting new industries to our area and this event is our way of reminding our exsisting industries of how much they mean to us and our community.  This year's Cookout was held on Thursday, May 28th at The Lannom Center.  Guest Speaker, Commissioner Burns Phillips, spoke about labor and workforce development in Tennessee.  Each year, we give out three awards for Industry of the Year categorized by number of employees.  This year's Industry of the Year Awards went to Firestone with 1 to 200 employees, Nortek with 201 to 499 employees and Ermco with 500 plus employees.  All three of these industries along with our other industries have gone above and beyond for the community and we appreciate all of their hardwork in doing so.

TCAT-NEWBERN CELEBRATES 50TH ANNIVERSARY WITH ANNUAL BUSINESS & INDUSTRY APPRICATION FISH FRY

"It's a great time to be in higher education in Tennessee," stated TCAT-Newbern Director Donna Hastings as she welcomed the over 600 special guests to the TCAT-Newbern campus on Thursday, May 21st for their annual Business & Industry Appreciation Fish Fry. Among those special guests were TCAT Vice Chancellor James King, State Representative Bill Sanderson, Senator Mark Norris, and Senator Ed Jackson.

Mrs. Hastings went on to give a brief history of TCAT-Newbern stating that "Governor Ellington was in office in 1965 when the funds were appropriated for the school and Governor Clement was the sitting Governor when the school opened. They had seen fit to offer this training opportunity to fill the skills gap that was facing our great State and also to strengthen the skills of the Vietnam War veterans coming home. All the training was FREE."

From 1965 through the mid-80s, manufacturing was strong and Tennesseans were proud to work in factories, drive trucks, and be auto mechanics, nurses, machinist and electricians. But somewhere along the way, parents and educators began to tell kids that everyone needed a four year degree or they would be thought of as unsuccessful. It certainly made a mess of things. "Due to that mind set we are now finding ourselves in a terrible situation in this country regarding, what it means to be successful, and that all work is honorable work," said Mrs. Hastings.

Fast forward 50 years and Governor Haslam and our legislatures have seen fit to allow us to offer training to fill the skills gap that is facing our great State and the training is tuition FREE. Through the Tennessee Promise that gives free tuition to all graduating seniors and the Tennessee Reconnect that gives free tuition to all independent Tennessee adults we are finally back on the road to improving our country, our State and most importantly our region. We have seen more than 43,000 people through our training programs over the last 50 years.

"Let me leave you with something I heard last week and I am stealing it. 'The fight against poverty begins with a JOB.' TCAT Newbern's sole purpose is to train students with skills to allow them to go to work. All Work is honorable."

URGENT TEAM ENCOURAGES SAFETY FIRST THIS SUMMER

Dyersburg, Tennessee, (June 09, 2015)- Urgent Team, one of the largest and fastest growing independent operators of urgent care centers across the Southeast, is encouraging safety first this summer and always.

As the weather is warmer and more people are out of school or on vacation, it becomes increasingly important to be aware of safety precautions that can be taken in order to increase the likelihood of summer being a safe and fun season for all. A few simple steps such as applying sunscreen, wearing proper safety gear for physical activities, and staying hydrated are easy ways to possibly prevent and avoid injury or illness this summer.

"Summer is an exciting time for most people," says Lynn Scarbrough, Vice President of Clinical Operations at Urgent Team, "Many people are more active during the summer months than they are the rest of the year, this can lead to increased injuries as people often do not take the proper safety precautions."

One topic that often makes a splash during summer is pool safety, says Scarbrough. "It is important that parents monitor their children while swimming, even when a lifeguard is present. Also, using flotation devices that are appropriate to the age and size of your child is essential as well as reapplying sunscreen after swimming according to the directions on the label."
The best way to have fun this summer is to ensure you and your family are safe during all of your activities. Please reach out to your local Urgent Team Center if you have any questions or would like more information on how to stay safe this summer.

DACHSER INCREASES REVENUE BY 5.2 PERCENT IN 2014
TO 5.3 BILLION EURO
Shipments rise by 4.4 percent to 73.7 million, and tonnage grows by 5.1 percent

ATLANTA (April 14, 2015) -DACHSER reports 5.2 percent growth in additional revenue for fiscal year 2014. Including revenue from corporate holdings, the two Business Fields*, Road Logistics and Air & Sea Logistics, grew by 5.0 percent and 8.0 percent, respectively.

"A lively spring was followed by an extraordinarily strong fall," said Bernhard Simon, CEO of DACHSER, in summarizing the year's events. "The trend toward outsourcing internationally complex logistics in particular has made a contribution to the company's organic growth."

Simon expects integrated supply chain solutions for multinational customers to be one of the major sources of growth in upcoming years. He stated, "Our global network, enhanced by our customized contract logistics solutions in Europe, Asia, and the U.S., as well as our own air and sea freight network allow us to create complete supply chains."

According to Simon, growth through expansion of networks is finished except for ongoing enhancements. DACHSER is now able to leverage its interlinked logistics services to achieve particularly sustainable growth.

Business Development Details
The consistent export strategy of European subsidiaries has paid off for the DACHSER European Logistics (EL) Road Logistics Business Line, in addition to the traditionally strong performance of the 'EL Germany' Business Unit. For example, the 'EL North Central Europe,' 'EL France & Maghreb,' and 'EL Iberia' Business Units made significant contributions to the 5.3% growth in revenue. Shipping figures increased by 5.5%; tonnage rose by 6.3%.

The Road Logistics Business Line of DACHSER Food Logistics experienced 3.7% growth in revenue and profited from strong use of capacity in consumer goods contract logistics. In addition, rising demand for cross-border food shipments in the European Food Network had a positive effect.
Finally, the Air & Sea Logistics Business Field also continued its global growth trend in 2014. The positive trend in sea freight was the decisive factor in the successful fiscal year.

Focus on agility and process orientation
DACHSER started off 2015 by changing its legal form to an SE (Societas Europaea). "By taking this action, we have created maximum legal security for our future growth as an international company, and at the same time secured our independence as a 100% family-owned company," explains Simon. The new management structure, which was created in the process, has eight operational Business Units under the globally active Executive Board. This reinforces our decentralized business strategy, which gives us the ability to make decisions flexibly and quickly. "In this way," continues Simon, "we can ensure proximity to our customers, and write the next chapter in our success story."

* About the terms "Business Field," "Business Line" and "Business Unit":
Along with the change in legal form to a Societas Europaea (SE), DACHSER has reorganized its management structure, changing the designations in the process. The company provides transport logistics, warehousing, and customized services within two fundamental Business Fields: DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics and DACHSER Road Logistics. Road Logistics is further divided into two Business Lines: DACHSER European Logistics (industrial goods) and DACHSER Food Logistics. With the Business Lines, DACHSER emphasizes the three pillars on which the company's business model is based.
At the organizational level, DACHSER has created eight operational Business Units: In addition to DACHSER Food Logistics, there are the regional units European Logistics (EL) Germany, EL North Central Europe, EL France & Maghreb, and EL Iberia, as well as Air & Sea Logistics (ASL) EMEA, ASL Americas, and ASL Asia Pacific.
