Join us for our second 2018 State of the Community luncheon featuring two community partners who aim to move our community forward: Yankton Area Progressive Growth and Onward Yankton. This event gives Yankton area residents and business owners a chance to hear first-hand about the impact these two groups have on our entire community.

Featured speakers include Nancy Wenande, YAPG CEO, and Kristen Hicks, Onward Yankton Board Member. Presenters will give updates on their efforts and projects, followed by a question and answer period after each speaker.

This event, organized by the Yankton Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee, is free and open to the public.

Registration is required by TODAY, May 14. An optional plated lunch (roasted turkey, potatoes and veggies) will be available for $15, which you can indicate when you register. Doors open at 11:30 am, lunch is served at 11:45 am, and speakers will present at noon.

Take Advantage of Educational Sessions!

Running a small business is challenging. You wear a lot of different hats. You may be the staff accountant in the morning, on the sales floor over lunch and the social media manager in the afternoon. Unfortunately, you may not be fully trained in all of those roles. But the good news is, the Yankton Chamber is here to help.

The Yankton Chamber membership is full of professionals, like you, with areas of expertise that can be tremendously helpful to other members when shared.

We leverage the power of that network by hosting Peer to Peer Meetings, Business Sense & Security Sessions, and offering all of our members access to the Business Video Library.

It’s your membership. Own it!

Question “Do I need to collect sales taxes?"

Answer : Unless your business is in Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire or Oregon the answer is yes.

If your business sells a product or provides a service that is taxable, you will need to set up a process to collect and pay sales taxes and file sales tax returns periodically. This involves registering with the state, determining your tax rates, setting up a process to collect taxes and sending reports and remitting payments to the state. More information can be found for SD businesses at http://dor.sd.gov/Taxes/Business_Taxes/ or for NE businesses at http://www.revenue.nebraska.gov/salestax.html
