Spring '16 LGT graduates Isaiah Wunsch,
Mark Humitz  and Dale Ostema

Applications Open for Fall LGT
Applications are now being accepted for the Fall 2016 semester of the Chamber's Leadership Grand Traverse program.

Leadership Grand Traverse is the Chamber's flagship leadership development program, now in its third decade of providing participants an up-close and thorough look into the institutions and amenities that make the Grand Traverse region a special place. LGT participants explore the region's arts and cultural institutions, our local education system, state and local government, our natural resources and more. LGT graduates move forward with a host of new personal and professional contacts and a deeper understanding of and appreciation for what makes Northern Michigan great.

Applications will be accepted through August 19, and scholarship opportunities are available. Learn more.

Swinging for Chamber Leadership
Speaking of Leadership Grand Traverse, the Chamber's annual Golf Outing is the primary fundraiser for LGT scholarships. This year's Golf Outing is set for August 17 at the spectacular Crystal Mountain Resort in Benzie County.

Tee times are filling up for this event. The Mountain Ridge course is full and the Betsie Valley layout is filling up fast. So register today to make sure you don't miss out on this great opportunity to connect with members of the area's business community while supporting key leadership programming here at the Chamber. The cost is $185 per golfer and your day will include golf, lunch and dinner, drink, raffle and 50/50 tickets and more. We look forward to seeing you there!

Chamber YP Ben LaCross Named to Infrastructure Commission
Ben LaCross, a Leelanau County cherry grower and a member of the Chamber's Young Professionals group, is the newest member of Gov. Rick Snyder's 21st Century Infrastructure Commission. The group was appointed earlier this year to develop recommendations to improve Michigan's infrastructure systems including roads, water systems, energy and communications. LaCross will represent Michigan's agriculture sector.

Besides being a Chamber YP, LaCross is a district director for the Michigan Farm Bureau and works for LaCross Farms in Leelanau County.  He is part of the commission's policy and finance subcommittee that will focus on moving its recommendations through the state Legislature and identifying ways to fund them. Congratulations Ben on this prestigious appointment!

TraverseCONNECT CEO Doug Luciani was also a recent appointment to Gov. Snyder's 21st Century Education Commission, which is tasked with making similar recommendations to Michigan's education system.
