Golf Outing Filling Fast
Don't wait to grab a spot for the annual Chamber Golf Outing coming up August 17 at Crystal Mountain Resort in beautiful Benzie County. Tee times are filling up fast for the resort's 4-star Mountain Ridge and Betsie Valley courses, so   register today . The $185 cost includes golf, lunch and dinner, a registration gift, along with drink and prize tickets. This event is the primary fund-raiser for the Chamber's Leadership programming, so you won't want to miss this chance to spend at the day at one of Northern Michigan's premier golf resorts.

Luciani Named to State Education Commission
Gov. Rick Snyder appointed TraverseCONNECT CEO Doug Luciani to the new 21st Century Education Commission. This 25-member commission includes representatives from the education, business, government and non-profit sectors and will focus on developing recommendations to position Michigan as a national leader in developing talent to meet the demands of today's economy. Welcome Katy Zimmerman to the TraverseCONNECT Team
Say hello to Katy Zimmerman who's joined the TraverseCONNECT staff for a summer internship. She's a student at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, working toward her bachelor's degree in International Studies with a focus on global security. She will be assisting CEO Doug Luciani in developing business plans for key projects being pursued to address bottlenecks in the region's economy. 

Katy will also be assisting with the Chamber's advocacy efforts, working with Government Relations Director Kent Wood.  She is a member of the UW Sailing Team and serves as the squad's recruitment chair, and also spends part of her summer as a certified sailing instructor at the Leland Yacht Club. Welcome Katy!

Venture North Annual Meeting June 14
Area business and community leaders won't want to miss Venture North Funding & Development's Annual Meeting and luncheon on June 14. The event features Doug Rothwell, CEO of Business Leaders for Michigan, who's among the leading experts on Michigan's economy. Rothwell will keynote the event, hosted by Visions at CenterPointe, 12935 S. West Bayshore Drive in Greilickville starting at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $15 and you can register here.

Rothwell is among the most sought-after experts on Michigan's business climate. Come and hear Rothwell's assessment of the state's economy, and what's needed to move Michigan forward. Venture North Executive Director Laura Galbraith will also have an update on a productive year for the business financing organization.

It's great when we can hold our monthly Business After Hours event in the heart of Downtown Traverse City. It's even better when our hosts are our friends at Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan, one of the Chamber's strongest supporters and primary sponsor of our leadership development programming.

Expand Your Horizons with LGT Fellows
Hundreds of local business and community leaders have honed their leadership skills and broadened their knowledge of the Grand Traverse region through their participation in the Chamber's flagship Leadership Grand Traverse program. Now there's a way for this distinguished group to stay involved in the program and learn even more about the area.

Leadership Grand Traverse Fellows is an alumni program open to past LGT participants. LGT Fellows can participate in "deep dive" sessions for a refresher course on local topics covered in their original LGT experience. Plus they can get the latest information on opportunities to use their leadership skills, and connect with current members and other past participants of the LGT program.

'Living Servant Leadership' Topic of Lunch Club
A combined luncheon and workshop highlights the next Leadership Lunch Club event coming up Friday, June 10, from 11 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.  at the Traverse City Golf & Country Club. The presenter is Tom Root, Co-managing  Partner for Zingerman's Mail Order, part of the successful enterprise of the world-famous delicatessen based in Ann Arbor.

TSA Pre-Check Sign up Starts Monday
Our friends at Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City will host another Transportation Security Administration Pre Check enrollment period starting Monday, June 6, continuing through June 11. Enrolling in the TSA's Pre Check program helps low-risk travelers get through airport security checkpoints across the country much more efficiently and helps reduce the stress and delays associated with air travel. Applicants can pre-enroll and select an appointment slot during the week by clicking here.
