Pints & Politics is Back
The Chamber works closely with its local, state and federal elected and appointed officials on issues that impact the business community. Our Pints & Politics series launched in 2015 offered our members an opportunity for face-to-face conversations with these key decision makers in a relaxed setting at Right Brain Brewery.

The Pints & Politics series returns in 2016; mark your calendars for these upcoming events:
  • May 17 - Traverse City officials
  • July 28 - State and Federal officials
  • September 29 - Grand Traverse County officials
Sessions will again be hosted by Right Brain Brewery from 4:30 - 6 p.m. Follow the Chamber Bulletin for registration details.

The Northern Michigan Chamber Alliance is also making plans for the return of the Alliance Speaker Series later this year. Acting state Department of Environmental Quality Director Keith Creagh has been confirmed as one of the speakers, and other presenters will be lined up in the near future. Follow the Chamber Bulletin for dates, times and locations for this year's Speaker Series.

Trump, Sanders Win Michigan Primary
Republican front-runner Donald Trump won Michigan's presidential primary ballot while Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders picked up a surprise win on the Democratic side in Tuesday's record-breaking primary election that attracted 2.5 million state voters.

Local election results on the Republican side largely tracked state-wide results. Trump finished first in Grand Traverse County with nearly 34 percent of the vote, followed by Sen. Ted Cruz (26 percent) and Ohio Gov. John Kasich (22.5 percent). On the Democratic side Sanders, who campaigned in Traverse City last week, rolled up nearly 65 percent of the vote to finish well ahead of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who finished with just over 33 percent. Just under 30,000 votes were cast in the county for a nearly 42 percent voter turnout.
