SBA visits Aug. 16th

Amy Bassett, Jim Pineau, Betty Egner, and Jennifer Sherwood  of the SBA will be coming to visit Bucksport businesses on Wednesday, August 16th.

They will begin at 10am at Bangor Savings Bank, which has been a gracious host to many, many client sessions in Bucksport.  Once the group has assembled and met with the great bank employees, they will work their way down Main Street, visiting the businesses that received funding from the SBA grant.

As the SBA's new Maine leader, Amy Bassett really wants to get to know the area so don’t be shy!  Depending upon the time, either before or after a lunch break, they will end their tour at the Chamber’s office. It is fitting to begin and end with such big supporters of this grant program and Bucksport.

Jennifer Sherwood will be taking pictures during the day to be used on social media for the SBA and Maine SBDC.  She will share them with you if you wish to include the event on your channels as well.

You can contact Betty at: Betty.Egner@ceimaine.org.

Land trust opens new trail in Bucksport

Great Pond Mountain Conservation Trust is hosting a grand opening at their new Old Chapman Farm property on the Upper Long Pond Road, Saturday, August 19, 10 am to 12 noon (rain date Aug. 20). There will be a ribbon-cutting at 10:30 am, guided hikes leaving at intervals, and refreshments available.

The 65-acre parcel, donated to GPMCT in 2015, hosts the remains of an old farm built in 1834 by the Chapman family—as well as a 5.5-acre managed blueberry field with a spectacular view toward Peaked Mountain, and a new ¾-mile hiking trail through a diverse forest with more than 200 plant species, towering trees and fern-covered boulders.

Variously called the “Long Pond Settlement” in the 1800s or “Santiago” in the early 1900s, the Upper Long Pond Road area today is one of the wildest and most scenic areas in Bucksport. Visitors to the Old Chapman Farm—the only conserved property along the road—will be able to enjoy hiking, birdwatching, picnicking and hunting on the property, which is accessible by bike, ATV or snowmobile, as well as on foot or by car in season.

The Old Chapman Farm has limited parking, and the Upper Long Pond Road can be challenging to travel; the property is inaccessible by car from the north. For information on access, alternative parking and shuttles, or rain date, please visit www.greatpondtrust.org, e-mail info@greatpondtrust.org or call 207 469-6929.

Penobscot Marine Museum news and events

New Fitz Henry Lane  Added to the Collection!

Thanks to the estate of Ellen Guild Moot, Penobscot Marine Museum recently acquired the Fitz Henry Lane oil on canvas painting "The Lumber Schooner," painted in 1850.

The Buyer: Edward Dyer Peters ( 1785-1856)
In the 18th century the lumber trade between Maine and Massachusetts was disorganized. Lumber went south on speculation fetching whatever the market paid when it arrived. Edward Dyer Peters changed this. Born in Blue Hill Maine (the son of John Peters, who by 1790 was Blue Hill's most prosperous citizen) by 1800 he was a partner with his brother John in Ellsworth's lumber business. Learn more here.

It really is possible to talk to your animals
Local animal communicator, Naomi Graychase, was always "sensitive." And she loved animals, but it wasn't until a series of heart-breaking events occurred, that she discovered she had the ability to open her heart into the practice of animal communication.

She was trained by an expert animal communicator in Massachusetts, and for the last five years has been working professionally as a telepathic animal communicator based in Bucksport.

She works over the phone, so distance is no object. And she can even talk with animals who are no longer in their bodies. And while her business is called, "Peace, fellow mammals," she can talk to any beings, living or passed away, not just mammals!

Learn more or book an appointment at her website, Peace, Fellow Mammals, or find her on Facebook.
