October 2 and 3 to learn how Pittsburgh overcame the “steel city” image
to transform itself into a community with a vibrant downtown, strong
educational system and tourist destination. In fact, in 2011, Pittsburgh
was ranked as the nation’s most livable city.

Nation
Springfield Takes Top Honors
Earlier this month, several Chamber staff members attended the American Chamber
of Commerce Executives (ACCE) National Convention in Louisville, Ky. During the
four-day conference, staff networked with peers and attended educational
sessions. We also learned whether or not we were awarded National Chamber of the
Year in our revenue category. Our counterparts in Springfield, Mo. took the
prize. The honor focuses on excellence in operations, member services and
community leadership. We are very proud of the work of this Chamber and the
time, talent and resources provided by members, staff and volunteers. We are one
of the top three in the nation and this year’s Indiana Chamber of the Year.

orientation program. This year’s sessions take place on October 18 and 25. The

Filing Deadline Approaches for Candidates
Running for School Board
Our School Board Endorsement Committee has been identifying quality school board
candidates to run in the November election. Individuals interested in running
for a position on a school board can still file a petition of nomination with
the county election board through noon, August 24.
2013 Visitors Guide Sales Underway
The 2013 Visitors Guide, produced by Visit South Bend Mishawaka, will publish in
January. If your business markets to the four million annual visitors to our
community, this is the marketing tool for you. As a Chamber member, you receive
a 25% discount. Ad sales are now underway and will continue through October 15.
