Here's What's Happening...
February is the month to share with those you love and I want to send out some love to Punxsutawney Phil for predicting an early spring this year. This is the month that we also celebrate heritage, and here in Haywood County we have so much to celebrate! Look for events all over the media! We have tons of stuff to get done and I'm ready to hit the grilling circuit! The Chamber, jointly with the Delta Heritage Center is proud to announce that the Celtic Society of West Tennessee has voted to join our community with a 2 day event the weekend of September 17th and 18th. It's called Celtic Fest, and celebrates Scottish and Irish history! If you have Celtic blood in you, or even if you don't, it's a great weekend of celebration, and we are so happy it's coming to make us more "Uniquely Haywood"! This is the month also to visit with your legislator, as the annual Legislative Breakfast is coming on February 12th. See the schedule below on the events for the month. Don't forget, if your organization is having something, please let us know and we'll send it out to our members. If you're a chamber member, please help us by attending events and networking. There is such a wealth of knowledge with our membership, and through the Chamber, you can tap in to it. From "how to" seminars, to business coaching, we are trying to make it happen for you. Don't forget, EVERY day you can tell folks how we're "Uniquely Haywood"!!!

Help Older Adults Plan for a 'Non-Driving Future' Kicks Off

The Eldercare Locator has a campaign that focuses on helping older drivers make a transportation plan before they give up the keys. Because most families have to grapple with this issue, there is a large brochure featuring tips and tools for older adults and caregivers.

"This is a major issue for older adults. When they lack transportation, they can't get to the doctor or the grocery store, or see friends and family as much, which means their overall well-being is likely to suffer," said Kathy Greenlee, Assistant Secretary for Aging and Administrator of ACL.

To help spread awareness of the challenges older adults often face when they stop driving without a plan, an eight-page brochure has been created. To view the brochure, click here.

This campaign brochure is among the most requested of those available through the Eldercare Locator. The first 25 brochures are free and bulk orders are offered at a special discount for n4a members. Click this link to order copies.

 Broadband Assessment

The future of Tennessee’s economic success is directly tied to our broadband Internet access. Having broadband access leads to an increase in educational and entrepreneurial opportunities, which therefore helps our state build a better workforce and accelerate job creation. To ensure that every community in Tennessee has the tools to economically succeed, we must measure who has broadband Internet access, if they are using it and how they are using it. Please help us make sure that every Tennessean’s voice is heard on this important topic by taking the 20-minute assessment. If you have questions related to our assessment, please contact [email protected].
