Heart of The North

A delegation of business people went to Madison on February 8th for the annual Heart of the North Day.  They represented Barron, Rusk, Sawyer, and Washburn Counties. Meetings were scheduled with:
Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation
Wisconsin Department of Tourism
Department of Workforce Development
Department of Health & Human Resources
Wisconsin Housing Economic Development Administration
Department of Administration

They also met with Senator Janet Bewley and Representative Romaine Quinn.

The Rice Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors put these 3 questions to the 5 candidates for the  Rice Lake City Council.
The 5 people running for the 4 at large council positions are:

Todd Larson
Dan Lawler
Scott Lundberg
Mark O'Brien
Bruce Willers

The questions asked were:
  1. Why are you seeking the position of City Council member?
  2. What can the City do to encourage existing business growth and attract new businesses?
  3. What can the City do to attract a viable new workforce?
  4.

The committee working on coming up with new entrance signs for Rice Lake had the WITC Architecture students in both Rice Lake and New Richmond do some designs for entrance signs. On February 21st the committee met with the students and they presented their designs.

The entrance sign committee will meet
and discuss
further the ideas.
We thank WITC instructor Deb Kutrieb and her students for working with us.
The designs were creative and very thoughtful of what represents Rice Lake.

Bert's Joke of the Month four leaf colver

Three Irishmen are sitting in the pub window
seat, idly chatting and watching the front door of the brothel across the road.

They see the local Baptist pastor appear, knock on the door and quickly go inside.

"Would you look at that!" exclaims the first Irishman. "Didn't I always say what a bunch of hypocrites those Baptists are?"

No sooner are the words out of his mouth than a Rabbi appears at the brothel door, knocks, and also disappears inside.

"Dere's another one trying to fool everyone with pious preaching and silly hats!"

They continue drinking while roundly condemning the vicar and the rabbi when they see their local Catholic priest knock on the brothel door.

"Ah, now dat's sad," says the third Irishman, "One of the girls must have died."
