Road to IKC Ends Here! May 29, 2012 - The hard-fought home season is coming to an exploding finale--the bout for all the marbles--at the Ivy King Cup championship this Saturday, June 2 at the UIC Pavilion, 525 S. Racine Ave. The night will start at 6 p.m. with an undercard charity game to benefit a former WCR skater, Tequila Mockingbird, and at 7:30 p.m., the Manic Attackers will attempt to hold onto their winning season as they battle it out against the reigning champions, The Fury. “The Ivy King Cup is what we've been working so hard for this entire season,” said Bork Bork Bork, co-captain of the Manic Attackers. “The defending champs are in for a rough time. All we'll say is that The Fury's jammers, and [Fury mascot] Fonzo, better look out!” National anthem will be performed by The Del Morrocos, a rock n’ roll band with killer girl-group vocals. Halftime entertainment provided by The Big Bang Drumline. In the beginning, there was percussion. Nature strikes together at just the right moment and the ultimate impact occurs. Experience nature’s first note, the ultimate beat, The Big Bang. Charity partner for the evening is Tequila Mockingbird. Tequila, a veteran Chicago roller derby player for The Fury, fell and seriously injured her spinal cord during a bout in August 2008. She has regained some movement in all of her limbs and due to sheer perseverance and hard work. She remains positive about the direction of her recovery and thanks all who have helped her along the way. There is still work to be done and she still needs our help.
