Summer Break Time for July & August classes. |
As the summer heat continue to rise, Break Time is available at City facilities to guide you in staying active. Registration for classes and youth camps is in progress for residents and non-residents. You can register at www.chandleraz.gov/breaktime. Call 782-2727 or 782-2900 for more information.
The fall Break Time for classes and programs in September, October and November is scheduled to be available starting Friday, July 20. Fall registration starts Saturday, August 4 at 10 a.m. (Friday, August 10 for non-resident).
The July/August episode of the "Come Out & Play Chandler!" show will start airing next Thursday, July 5. It will feature music programs and special events with bands.

For news from the Environmental Education Center: www.facebook.com/ChandlerEEC EEC Community Artist's Corner  The EEC's Community Artist's Corner features talented artists from around the Valley. On display until August 16 are the unique and bright screen prints of Jeremy Yocum, a local artist. Jeremy received a degree from Northern Arizona University in Art Education and has been teaching art to children for the past 13 years in the Mesa Public Schools. Come take a look! All six City of Chandler aquatic centers are open for the summer season! Enjoy public swim hours at Arrowhead Pool, Desert Oasis Aquatic Center, Folley Pool, Hamilton Aquatic Center, Mesquite Groves Aquatic Center and Nozomi Aquatic Center. Admission for public swim is $1 for children, $2.25 for adults and $1.25 for seniors (except for Folley Pool; admission rates are $0.75 for children, $2 for adults, and $1 for seniors). Be on the lookout for $1 family swim times offered at each facility - admission during limited times is only $1 for the entire family! Free Swim hours also vary depending on location - free admission during limited times. Check online at www.chandleraz.gov/aquatics for public swim, free swim and $1 family swim times.
Did You Know?
Did you know that outside food and beverages are allowed into each aquatic center in limited quantities? The outside food and beverage policy allows one hard or soft-sided cooler per guest not to exceed 7"x7"x9" (six pack size), all food items must fit in brown bag or sack lunch, and beverages are not to exceed 32 ounces. Think twice before packing a large cooler to bring to the pool!

Chandler 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular!
- Wednesday, July 4 from 4-10:30 p.m.
- Tumbleweed Park, southwest corner of Germann and McQueen roads.
- Free admission and parking is $5 per vehicle.
- Activities include: o Free Kids Carnival
o Dunk Tank o 24' Rock Climb Wall o 35' Water Slide o Assorted Games o Peddle Bike Parade - Registration is needed

Tortoise Encounter

Come to the new desert tortoise habitat at the Environmental Education Center (located just outside the front doors)for a free 'Tortoise Encounter' to meet and learn about the center's new Sonoran Desert Tortoises. If the tortoises are cooperative, guests will get a close look at the animals, watch them have breakfast and learn more about these amazing, desert creatures! Dragonfly Discovery Walk
- Wednesday, July 11 from 7:30-9 a.m.
- Environmental Education Center
- For all ages
- FREE!
Join a naturalist for a guided walk to observe dragonflies and damselflies buzzing about the desert and wetland habitats at Veterans Oasis Park! Bring binoculars, water and wear good walking shoes and a hat. The walks are not fast-paced and the terrain is easy. Dragonfly coloring books and field guides will be available for sale. Participants should meet at the Red-tailed Hawk ramada in Veterans Oasis Park and may leave at any time during the walk. Registration for the 2012 fall Adult Sports season will begin Monday, July 30 at 8:00 AM. Registration is taken on a first-come, first-serve basis. Games begin in September. Please contact Ken Sipes at (480) 782-2704 or kenneth.sipes@chandleraz.gov for additional information.

In our Let's Play Music! class, preschoolers and a parent will enjoy a play date where they can come and participate in fun, interactive games focusing on simple music theory and concepts. Classes are on Tuesdays, July 10-31, from 10-11 a.m. You can register for this class at www.chandleraz.gov/registration using 094CC.432. Registration fees are $16 for residents and $22 for non-residents with an additional $5 supply fee. For more information, please call 480-782-2727. We still have many youth classes to keep the kids busy before they go back to school. Keep them fit in judo or encourage their creativity as they build a masterpiece in ceramics. Sonoran Desert Adventure
During this fun program on Tuesday, July 31 from 10-11 a.m., parents and children ages 3-6 will discover the unique animals and habitats of the desert while enjoying a story-time, arts and crafts, taking a short nature walk in the park, and playing fun games. Cost is $6 ($9 for non-residents) per person with an additional $3 supply fee due to the instructor at the beginning of the class. This fee is per child, with one unpaid adult permitted per child. Solar Cooking
Join this unique 'Solar Cooking' class just for adults on Saturday, July 21 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.! Participants will use the power of the sun to prepare a solar feast and learn to make simple entrees and desserts in a commercial solar oven, as well as a hand-crafted cardboard oven. Recipes may include cinnamon apples, sun tea lemonade, cookies, and more! This class will conclude with samples to taste and recipes to take home.The cost is $12 ($17 for non-residents) per person with an additional $6 supply fee due to the instructor at the beginning of the class. Sportball Clinics-Indoors Certified Sportball coaches introduce, practice, and refine sport skills with an enthusiastic and animated approach. This class is for ages 3-5 and reinforces the benefits of teamwork and skills development rather than the importance of winning, enabling children to gain the confidence and develop the social skills necessary to succeed in sport and life. The class fee is $13 (non-residents: $18) with a $45 instructor fee and runs from July 9-13 and July 23-27, 9:15-10:15 a.m. Register at www.chandleraz.gov/registration or call 782-2640 for assistance. Young & Money Savvy Introduce financial savvy now-don't wait! Money management skills are critical life skills. Enroll and start your young consumer on a lifelong path that builds financial expertise in this fun and interactive class! Chess Camp - Chess Wizards Join Chess Wizards for ages 5-12! Play games, make new friends and spend all day having fun. There will be an array of activities throughout the day: Chess games, lessons, puzzles, wizard says, bug house, mirror, fisher, take me, charades and more! Each child will receive a chessboard, trophy, Chess Wizards t-shirt, and a folder with all of the puzzles they learn at camp. Come enjoy your last Friday night before schools starts at the Back to School Pool Party on Friday, July 20, 2012 at Folley Pool from 5:30-7:30 p.m. We will have a DJ, food, and diving for prizes! A "RAD" Luau
The "RAD" Luau will be held on Saturday, July 28 at Hamilton Aquatic Center.This event is free but register is required. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Come party the "RAD" way!  Tumble Tots Indoor Playground
Tumbleweed Recreation Center offers preschool activities in a safe play area for children five years old and younger to play under parental or guardian supervision with "Tumble Tots" every Tuesday and Thursday from 9-11 a.m. There is a $2 fee per child ($3 for non-residents). Family Nights at Tumbleweed Recreation Center
