Post U.S. Election

The US election is now behind us, and the most common question I received over the past 3 weeks is how to handle the U.S. Election, and it's effect on the portfolio.  Interestingly, most elections have had little effect beyond the more common short-term worry before, and just after, usually reacting to polls, and media coverage.

The average drop in markets after an election is 1.8%

The more pressing issue is how do we continue to generate growth in a slow-growing world, with negative interest rates throughout 40% of the developed world. That challenge is one that is important to factor into portfolio construction.
A Transparent Industry

We are always looking to change and keep up with the trends being demanded by our clients.
The industry is continuing to change and evolve to meet investor's changing needs and the ongoing initiative to provide transparency in the industry.

Some of the changes include:

1)   Changes to Online Statements & More Access
to Online Reports, Transaction records, and
Receipts.  If you'd like to sign up for this service,
      we can help.

2)   Online Document Sharing on a Confidential
       Portal
These statements will feature new investment
return reporting, and fee disclosure. As we've been
reviewing these options over the past year, I look
forward to further reviewing your statements   for
     more comprehensive understanding.

MARKETS:

The 2 other areas I keep getting asked about are GOLD, (precious metals) and Income Alternatives such as Infrastructure.

Curious about how they affect your portfolio?

Both areas can add diversification that will help to reduce the risk of the overall portfolio.  However, Gold, or precious metals by themselves usually add more volatility.  They have performed well in the past 12 months, but this area has been a rocky road for the past 4 years.  To determine if it's right for your portfolio, review if you can truly handle the risk (and ups and downs) that are usually associated with this area.

Making a difference with Charitable Donations

Every year I donate to charities.  I donate both time and money, and it's an important part of my contribution to my community, and my country.  It's also a great way to meet some incredible people.

As many of my clients feel very passionate about giving back, I wanted to remind each of you that it's so easy to give, and it's a great way to reduce your taxable income.  If you donate a non-registered investment, you can get the charitable tax credit, but also have the capital gain waived completely.  Now that's a win-win in my books.  Let us help you find a way to give back.

When you have a choice, make sure you show up!  You can determine your future, even if you couldn't influence the U.S. Election.
