MLK Day Holiday and Teacher Work Day

There is no class on Monday, January 15 in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr Day. The office, preschool, childcare will also be closed that day.

There is no class on Friday, January 26 for a teacher work day. Preschool will be closed, but childcare will be open. You can sign up with Amy Hart.
Ms Huston Departing

Ms. Huston announced this week that she will not be returning next year as our HS life sciences teacher. We will miss her, but wish her well in her next venture!

Administrator Search Update

The School Board wanted to provide an update on the search for our next administrator. In November, we formed a search committee including: Andrea DeYoung, Nate Burke and Joe Filbrun from the school board and Tassie DeMoney, Char DeKoekkoek and Joel Bratt from the teachers/staff. Tim Visser is acting in a consulting role and has been very supportive and helpful as we move through this process.

Preschool Open House - January 25

We will be hosting TWO sessions of our Preschool Open House on Thursday, January 25. Join us for the morning session at 9:30-11:30 a.m. or the evening session from 5 to 7 p.m. If the open house on January 25 doesn’t fit your schedule, call the office at 206-364-7777 for an individual tour.

A typical day in the life of a preschooler at Shoreline Christian is full of opportunities for learning and fun. Our experienced certified staff support the development of our students through learning, play and downtime.
Chili Supper - January 26

Remember to mark you calendars for Friday, Jan. 26 for the annual Staff-sponsored Chili Supper. 

You can dine in the church basement across the parking lot from 5:00-7:00.  We'd like some help with dessert. If you are able to donate a dozen homemade bars or cookies, please contact your student's teacher or class sponsor. Thank you for your help. Join the fun and the feasting on the 26th!

Proceeds from this night go towards funds for professional development for the staff.

Girls and Boys basketball play Tacoma Baptist in the gym that night too, so come for chili, stay for basketball!
Re-Enrollment Open Now!

Early reenrollment for the 2018/19 school year is open now. Reenrollment is how you secure your spot for the next school year if you are a current SCS family. Early reenrollment will be open from January 1st to January 31st, open enrollment begins February 1st.

The fees for reenrollment are changing this year as well. The fee for early reenrollment is $150 per family from January 1st to January 31st. Beginning February 1st, the reenrollment fee raises to $250 per family.

Detailed instructions have been emailed via Renweb to parents of current students. If you have any questions about the process, please email the office.
School Spelling Bee - Monday, February 5

Students in 1st through 8th grade are brushing up on their spelling skills especially this month. Classroom spelling bees will determine the top two spellers in each class.  Those top two spellers will go on to compete in the school bee which is scheduled for Monday, Febrary 5 at 8:45 in the Multi Purpose room in Shoreline Christian Reformed Church. 

Friends and family are invited to attend the event. We are pleased that Vonnie Roosendaal, former long time teacher at SCS, will again be one of our judges. Our school winner will be invited to participate in the local Seattle Bee representing students from King and Snohomish counties on March 25 at 1 p.m. in the  Campion Ballroom at Seattle University.
Track Coaches Needed

We are looking for volunteer coaches for both middle school and high school track. The Middle School Track program is looking for people who are interested in helping to coach this years team. Track experience is preferred but not necessary. We already have some coaches but would love to have more.
The season will begin in early March and go through early May. They will practice or compete 3 times per week.

For high school, we are looking for a coach for the 2019 season. Preference will be given to anyone with experience coaching, but experience is not required. If you need experience, there is an opportunity to shadow the team and Mr. Visser this year.

Calling All Math Olympiad Coaches!

Students in 4th - 8th grade are getting ready to start practicing for the annual Math Olympiad competition. This competition is made up of of schools throughout the Shoreline School District. March 10 will be the 20th Annual Math Olympiad!  We need three more coaches . Each grade level will need a coach. Coaches are asked to meet with their teams at least once a week starting in January up through the day of the event. If you are interested or know someone who might be a good fit please contact Char DeKoekkoek. . Go Chargers!
Bus Drivers Needed

We are looking for drivers who have their CDL, or would be interested in getting a CDL, and would be willing to drive occasionally for sports and field trips. Some funds might be available for reimbursement of testing fees. Please let Paul Hopkins know if you are interested or have any questions.
Director of Student Life

We are adding a new position to our staff, a Director of Student Life. This position will provide a pastoral presence in the school by building relationships with students in grades 6-12. They will also design and implement liturgies that support the mission of SCS; coordinate expressions of faith through chapel, adviser groups, service learning, and WWednesdays; and teach religion courses.

Winter Shortage of Blood & Platelets
Donors Needed

The Red Cross encourages eligible donors to make an appointment today – visit or call 1-800- RED CROSS (1-800- 733-2767). Platelet and type O negative and B negative blood donations are critically needed right now. Scheduling an appointment reduces possible wait times at blood donation sites. One upcoming drive is on Friday, January 26 from 10:00 AM- 03:30 PM at the Husky Union Building, University of Washington, 4001 E Stevens Way NE, Seattle, WA 98195. Parents and students, are you ready to show your Charger spirit? Connect with parents in your child's grade to host one of our home games this season! Classes can host a game by signing up for service needs at a home game. Positions include Greeters to welcome our community and guests from the other team, court supervisors and more.

  • The next home games of the season will at home on January 12th against CPC-Mountlake Terrace. Boys' JV at 4:30pm, 6:00pm Girls' Varsity, 7:30pm Boys' Varsity. It's face paint night so come to the game with your face painted!

Scrip Program

Have you used the Scrip program at SCS? It's a program for buying gift cards to local retailers and getting a credit toward your tuition. Gift cards are available for purchase in the SCS office.
