Pinecrest Academy of Nevada
Dr. Carrie Buck
Principal Pinecrest Academy
Pinecrest Academy of Nevada is a nationally accredited, dynamic charter system empowered by the students, teachers, and parents. We currently serve 3,700 students, with over 4,000 on the wait list for the next school year. We unite a community invested in our vision and our schools through the power of school choice. As a system of advocates whose mission is to serve and support the whole child, we keep students at the center of every educational decision. Whether individual needs are met through acceleration, enrichment, or intervention, Pinecrest provides a continuum of tailored, high-quality educational experiences for each child.
Pinecrest consistently maintains a strong focus on academic rigor and provides researched-based curriculum. The incorporation of highly successful blended learning programs allows for authentic differentiated learning goals. Teachers are provided with professional development opportunities throughout the year both locally and out-of-state. Teachers collaborate across schools to become masters in their field and deliver consistent best practices in each lesson. Authentic grading and high expectations prepare students for college and career. As a data-driven and results-oriented system, Pinecrest educators are constantly refining their practices in order to achieve maximum growth for all students.
As an innovative STEM-certified academy, Pinecrest offers an advanced and integrated approach to teaching and learning. Our cutting-edge STEM labs expose young minds to engaging, hands-on, discovery-based opportunities for exploration. This constructivist-based approach is interactive and allows learners to evolve as critical thinkers. With over 20 projects placing in the UNLV Science Fair, our students learn the scientific and engineering process from a young age. Always forward-thinking, Pinecrest is mindful of industry needs in our geographic area. Administrators network with industry leaders to build a pipeline program that will certify our students as skilled professionals to fill the high-demand technology jobs of the future.
Pinecrest offers an array of unique electives, such as aviation, robotics, and coding. With a wide variety of over 20 innovative electives to choose from, students can explore their interests and receive a well-rounded education. Spanish, STEM, art, and P.E. classes are part of the school day, as early as Kindergarten. We celebrate the arts with orchestra, band, choir, dance, and graphic design. As early as elementary, students can compete in over a dozen sports programs, such as archery, lacrosse, soccer, volleyball, or football. After school clubs also enhance each child’s overall school experience. A student can end his or her school day with cyber security, gardening, or Rubix competition club Pinecrest improves the landscape of education in Nevada by laying out a fierce educational path for student success.

Chalkbeat – May 9th, 2017
A last-minute compromise that could send more local tax dollars to charter schools moved quickly through the statehouse
Tuesday clearing critical hurdles in both the House of Representatives and Senate. The bill faced fierce opposition from a coalition of House and Senate Democrats that said they spoke for school districts that opposed to the legislation. Districts said the compromise violated their constitutionally protected local control.
LA Times – May 10th, 2017
If the Los Angeles school board elections were a movie, then the nominee for best supporting actor might go to an individual who so far has received little attention: Reed Hastings.

Edexcellence.net – May 9th, 2017
While well intentioned, Fordham’s new report, Three Signs that a Proposed Charter School is at Risk of Failing, risks being a step backward for the charter movement. The study’s design misses several important aspects of the public’s attitude toward schooling, predictors of adult success, and advances in tools to assess a school’s impact. Policymakers and authorizers should be asking at least four key questions as they assess currently operating, and proposed new chartered public schools. Here’s a brief overview, and then the question.
Proof positive that Charter Schools are better
Newsweek – May 9th, 2017
In the many debates about American public education, there is no shortage of flash points to ignite passions and heat up the rhetoric. Funding. Testing. Teacher Performance. Seniority Rules. But of the many controversial topics, the one that feels like it burns the hottest is the issue of public charter schools.
