We Did It! House Bill 2 Charter School Reform Legislation Passes Both Senate and House Chambers Today with Broad Bipartisan Support.
The Ohio House of Representatives and the Ohio Senate voted today with broad bipartisan support to send House Bill 2 to the Governor's desk. With charter schools being highly scrutinized in Ohio, it is encouraging to have both parties show a majority vote to support this bill to address transparency and accountability in Ohio's charter schools.
Throughout the legislative process I have counted on our members for guidance and advice on provisions that affected them during the various iterations of the bill. Every time I called, you answered, and that is why we have legislation that continues to allow charters to have autonomy, along with necessary reforms. This bill had significant study and it was altered during many committee processes and deliberations. My goal is to distribute a detailed analysis of the bill by this Friday, so members will have a basis to understand how these various changes will unfold. To read the Conference Committee Omnibus Amendment passed yesterday that is now included in the final bill,
Once again, I would like to reiterate that without our members, none of this would have been possible. As we travel through the remainder of this General Assembly, I will continue to work with all members to achieve success with these legislative mandates and overcome any obstacles you may face. This bill represents a WIN for the Ohio Alliance for Public Charter Schools, charter schools in Ohio and the nearly 125,000 students and parents who have chosen to attend our schools.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me. Watch for the legislative analysis in your email by this Friday, and stay connected through our website,
