In February 2016, Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo signed into law a plan to spend $4.8 billion on state infrastructure over the next 10 years. At the successful completion of an apprenticeship program, apprentices not only have on-the-job and instructional learning, but also industry-issued, nationally recognized portable certificates of completion. In FY 2016 there were over 505,000 active apprentices and 206,000 individuals entered the apprenticeship system.

The Supreme Court has granted a petition in Masterpiece Cakeshop, Ltd. v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission.The issue in this case is whether Colorado's public accommodations law, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, violates a cake artist's First Amendment free speech and free exercise rights.
