2017 TRAVEL & ACCOMMODATIONS
FOR CHARTRES
2017 Bookings at Hotellerie St. Yves (always including breakfast) for 6 main class days will be made through the University as in the past - and St. Yves continues to ask that the University also handle booking for students arriving early or extending their stay at the end. You may contact other hotels directly at any time. See list of alternative hotels at the bottom.
Arrival and Departure Timing
The 2017 New Chartres Academy will BEGIN at 3:00 PM on Sunday July 2. Registration will begin at 1pm. It is possible to arrive in Paris early Sunday morning and get to Chartres by 3:00 PM. However, it may be best to arrive on Saturday or earlier to adjust to the time difference and to rest before the class begins.
The program will END mid-day on Saturday July 8. If it is necessary to fly out of Paris on Saturday after the program ends, try to avoid planning a flight from Paris before 8:00 PM-or your exit will be tense and rushed or you may even miss the important closing circle of our week together.
Before buying your air tickets, please consider an add-on adjacent opportunity in Spain for the week immediately after the New Chartres Academy:
Travel From Paris Airports to Gare Montparnasse to Chartres
Trains transporting passengers to Chartres from Paris depart from the Montparnasse Train Station.
"Le Bus Direct" now operates the Line 4 shuttle bus from CDG Airport to the Montparnasse Train Station (scroll down left column to Line #4) for all passengers arriving on any airline wishing to use their service
route map.
Travel time from Charles de Gaulle airport (CDG) to Montparnasse Train Station on this shuttle takes at least one hour (depending on traffic) and costs USD $18 (€17) one way (
if bought online
). Trains from the Montparnasse Station to Chartres take a little over one hour and start at around
USD
$20 (€19) (
if bought online
). You can buy your ticket at the train station without advance reservations. The total one-way trip from Paris airports to Chartres can be done in about 3 hours.

Accommodations in Chartres
Chartres is a small town of around 50,000. A number of hotels, restaurants and shopping sites are within easy walking distance of the Cathedral and of the Maison St. Yves, the primary meeting site where almost all choose to stay:
Hotellerie Maison St. Yves
|
A YouTube video was prepared by our Wisdom School (as a gift to the very helpful St. Yves management and staff). To view photos of the St. Yves and for additional information about this hotel, please click here.
The Wisdom School has reserved all of the sleeping rooms at the Hotellerie St. Yves, which also serves as the primary meeting place for our program. Students wishing to stay at the Maison St. Yves should use the link below
or contact
Stacy Newman
to make reservations and payment arrangements. All rooms are non-smoking, and most are for double or triple occupancy. Single occupancy rooms at the St. Yves are very limited and always sell out early.
Those wishing to reserve additional room nights at the Maison St. Yves for check-in any time other than Sunday afternoon July 2 or for check-out any day other than Saturday morning July 8 should pay for their extra nights below or contact
Stacy Newman (and
NOT
contact the hotel directly) to specify the need for additional nights.
Again, to view photos of the St. Yves and for additional information about this hotel, please
view the video.
This hotel is a historic site located immediately next to Cathedral. All have private bathrooms and almost all rooms have showers rather than bathtubs. All are non-smoking, and none of the rooms have air conditioning although the walls are very thick and it perches on a hill that catches some breeze.
