February News

February is the month of love, and we sure love our Chatsworth Kiwanis Club.

Check out our past and future events. You'll find that service is at the core of it all, and that's about the best Valentines gift any of us club members can hope for. (And chocolate. Nothing wrong with some service and chocolate. Read on!)

Who Loves Golfing? We do!

It's that time of year again. On April 25 th, along with Los Toros Restaurant, the Chatsworth Kiwanis Foundation is hosting the Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Moorpark Country Club.

Here's what the event president, Nick Montaño, had to say about the even that provides local students and their schools with much needed funding.

(Nick from last year's event right before hitting the green.)

What do the proceeds cover?

Kiwanis is big on supporting kids throughout the world, but also within our community. The profit we make from this tournament goes toward local schools arts and leadership programs,  as well as scholarship funds and extracurricular activities.

How can local businesses get involved?

For one thing, you can just attend the event and golf! It's totally non-competitive and a great way to meet others in the community. Other ways they can help is by providing raffle prizes or donating Sponsorship Opportunities. They can find out more by visiting the website at www.chatsworthkiwanis.org

Can you break down the donations/sponsorships a bit?

Here's an overview of what businesses can expect. As you can see, they donate just a little bit or really go for it with a huge financial contribution. No donation is too big or small and it's all tax deductible.

NOTE: All donors of $50 or more are listed in our Event Program. They can donate merchandise, a gift certificate or a service.

For those of us who have never been to a Kiwanis sponsored golf tournament, can you break it down a bit more?

Sure. You can always email me (Nick@LosToros.com) or my wife, Lucia (Lucia@LosToros.com) but here's the breakdown.

Why do you do this every year?

Chatsworth Kiwanis takes pride in making a difference in a child's life. This event is the cherry on top of our fundraising goal. It's one of the most fun events for us to put on, and everyone who attends ends up doing way more than just golf. We have a ton of return businesses year after year.

It started out with 40 golfers and now we're up to 220 golfers. 25 years.

What can people expect besides golf?

There's a Scramble Format, Poker Game, Various Contests, Awards Banquet, Silent Auction, Raffle Prizes, Tequila Sampling and much more. Fellow shipping with friends, opportunity to see friends you haven't seen in a while, dust off your golf club. For some folks, it's the only time you get to play. It's a good time to be able to empty your bag of all your golf balls.

We hope to see you!

Please forward this newsletter to your friends, family and business colleagues. Not only would we love you to join us at Kiwanis, but we hope to see you out on the green!

(Dominic Paventi, son of members Andrea and James and a 7th grader at Our Community School, paints a Valentine's Day puzzle with one of the residents.)

(Christian Ornelas, a super active key clubber, helps a resident put her puzzle away to make room for cake.)

Granada Hills Charter
  • Operation Happy Feet - January 9th
At this event, key clubbers met up at Payless Shoe Source to assist families in need to pick out brand new shoes.
  • Division 25 East & West Joint Conclave - January 16th
This was the very last 25 East & West Joint Conclave because next year, it will turn into 16 East and West! Because of that, this was a very emotional and memorable event, especially for the seniors. They elected the new Lieutenant Governors for the 2016-2017 term for both divisions! The elects were Ashley Tran for 16 East, and Serena Duong for 16 West.
  • Everybody Reads - January 23rd
Everybody Reads is a monthly event that Granada Koalas attend where we read to the children of Noble Elementary. It's a great program because it encourages kids to read more and more, as well as rewards them with books every time they are present at the event. Also, many of us make friends with the children and it becomes even more heartwarming and fulfilling!
  • GHCHS Articulation Night - January 26th & 28th
At Granada's Articulation Night, incoming freshman and their parents take a tour around the campus to learn about the different programs and clubs that are available when they commence their high school career. Key Club had a booth and we were able to explain the magic of Key Club to many of these incoming freshman, and we are extremely confident that there will be an abundant amount of new members for next year!
  • WinteR7 Olympics - January 30
At the Winter Olympics, Region 7's divisions/clubs competed against each other in games and activities. It was such a fun time and was a great way to strengthen the bonds between everyone who came. Granada sold polaroid pictures, it was a fantastic fundraising idea!
  • January DCM - January 30
DCM took place after the Winter Olympics. Granada actually happened to get club of the month, so we are very proud and happy for that achievement! We have been going through some rough patches as a club, and it felt great to be recognized for the hard work we put in through those difficult times.

And More....
