Corn
 Greetings!
This is another thrilling week for local produce! So many new produce items become available on a daily basis it can be hard to keep up with it all.

This week LOCAL CORN season kicks off. It is featured in almost every basket and available as an add on.

LOCAL PEACHES also appear this week but in limited supply. They are available in the Fruit Basket and as an add on.
Other new local produce items include red & black raspberries, purple peppers, shishito peppers, jalapeno peppers, new potatoes, purslane, tatsoi and many more. All new produce items will be available in the market Wednesday afternoon.

This is the best time of the year to get your 5-10 daily servings of fruits and veggies. Check out all the exciting items and specials below!
Not Just A Grocery Store
A few weeks ago, Amazon’s purchase of Whole Foods for $13.7 billion sent shock waves through the nation.  The retailer’s largest acquisition ever rose its own stock price 2.4%, while grocery competitors’ stocks plummeted.  Considering that the average American household spends over $4000 a year on groceries — totaling about $800 billion in annual spending in the United States — Amazon has just put itself in a prime position to become the most competitive grocer in the nation.  From a long-term perspective, this expansion into the coveted world of organic groceries will most likely mean massive shifts for both the food industry and for consumers.

For the record, the title of this piece (“Not Just a Grocery Store”) is not intended to represent Amazon’s Whole Foods.  Rather, it’s to remind all of us that Berkshire Organics—and all of the other independently owned markets in America—are not just grocery stores. We are small businesses which play a huge role within the local economy, and we are integral to the health of our communities.  We thank you for your continued support.

BERRIES
Strawberry season has ended but now it's time for local blueberries and raspberries to shine!
CHERRIES
After just one week, we had to say goodbye to local rainier cherries due to splitting and cracking but this is turning out to be a fantastic season for the sweet red variety.

Enjoy local cherries now before they disappear.
  PURSLANE & TATSOI
Right now there are so many varieties of bunched greens to choose from.

Did you know purslane contains more omega-3 fatty acids (α-linolenic acid) than any other leafy vegetable plant?

Try adding a different green to your salads or smoothies for a nutritional boost.

CARROTS
If you haven't tried the bunched carrots yet, you're missing out. This new crop is super sweet!

The green tops can also be eaten. Some say the taste is similar to parsley.

Ballast Point Brewing Company

Pineapple Sculpin IPA

 7% ABV,  Bitterness: 70 IBUs

A tropical take on a tried-and-true favorite. Our Pineapple Sculpin IPA came from one of many small-batch cask experiments to enhance the flavor of our signature IPA. With so many tropical hop notes in Sculpin, how could we not try adding some sweet, juicy pineapple? The combination of fruity flavors and hop intensity definitely packs a punch.

Longfin Lager

4.5% ABV, Bitterness: 17 IBUs

A classic German-style beer, brewed in San Diego. Our Longfin Lager has become one of the go-to beers with the team at the brewery. A solidly balanced Helles that finishes clean with a hint of hops, it would easily fit in at any German beer garden. But we think it’s perfect for enjoying on the beach, the boat or anywhere else you can put an ice chest full of beer.

Grunion Pale Ale
5.5% ABV, Bitterness: 50 IBUs

A new Pale Ale where hops run the show. Our Grunion Pale Ale wasn’t born on a beach, but in a backyard.  Originating from an employee-only home brew contest, this award-winning hoppy pale ale is named after the tiny local fish known for late night frolics on shore.  A pair of new hop varieties lend strong yet balanced summer melon aromas and herbal flavors, while a soft caramel malt sweetness holds it all together.

A colorful, crunchy, light and healthy summer salad using the freshest produce of the season!

Stuffed with a Mexican-style black bean filling and topped with a vegan cheese sauce, these fork-tender stuffed zucchini make a filling vegan dinner. Perfect for summer!

This salad is cool, crispy and refreshing with purslane, cucumbers, tomatoes, jalapeño chile, lemon juice and salt.

The natural sweetness of ripe summer cherries is deepened by oven-roasting in a balsamic glaze. Tangy goat cheese provides a creamy counterpoint to the soft fruit.
