After two wonderful years as the Executive Director for the Council of Urban Professionals, Brennon Marcano will be moving on to take a position as the CEO of The GEM Consortium. As we head into the final stretch of 2016, and prepare for our 10 year anniversary in 2017, with an ambitious agenda, talented staff, and a dedicated Board, we are confident CUP will continue to be a thought leader in the diversity and inclusion space. DISTINGUISHED LEADERSHIP SERIES: LIFESTYLE SHIFT -TRANSFORMATIVE TECH IMPACTING OUR LIVES
On Wednesday, September 14, 2016, CUP held a  Distinguished Leadership Series: Lifestyle Shift - Transformative Tech Impacting Our Lives, event hosted by JPMorgan Chase & Co. The evening's program included a conversation featuring  Chinedu Echeruo , Founder of HopStop and Gigameet. The conversation was moderated by  Tiffany Norwood , Founder & CEO of Tribetan. FOURTH CUP FELLOWS CONVENING
On Saturday, September 17, nine classes of CUP Fellows gathered for an interactive and enriching day of development and networking. The 2016 Convening, hosted by Ogilvy & Mather, focused on skills and strategies for the authentic leader, including a CUP Fellows Alumni Panel featuring  Gabrielle Lyse Brown , Director of Diversity & Inclusion, New York City Bar Association (2014 Fellow),  Rakhi Bahadkar-Rajpaul , Director, Anti-Money Laundering Investigation Group, Morgan Stanley Smith Barney (2012 Fellow),  Celina Lee , Founder, Give One Dream (2015 Fellow),  Saxonny Rich , Customer Success Executive, Everwise (2013 Fellow), and  Paul Rodriguez , Deputy Counsel to the Mayor of New York City (2014 Fellow); and workshops on time management, sponsorship, feedback, and negotiation, with the negotiation session led by 2014 Fellow  Fatimah Gilliam , Founder and CEO of The Azara Group.

The program also included keynote remarks from  Kenji Yoshino , Author,  Covering: The Hidden Assault on Our Civil Rights , followed by a discussion on "covering" with  Angelina Darrisaw , Founder, C-Suite Coach (2014 Fellow) and  Esther Kim , Vice President, BlackRock (2014 Fellow). The day closed with a powerful discussion on issues of race and social justice in the workplace and our communities, led by  Paula Edgar , Principal, PGE LLC (2015 Fellow) and  Chantá Parker , Supervising Attorney, Legal Aid Society (2015 Fellow). A very special thank you to our CUP Fellows who attended and participated in our 2016 Convening.

The Council of Urban Professionals (CUP) Fellows are talented, multicultural professionals from all industries with a passion to become powerful leaders in their communities. Through the CUP Fellows Program, participants complete a one-year leadership development experience that includes skills-based training and networking opportunities that prepare them for impactful civic involvement. The program is designed to equip participants with the skills, information, resources and network needed to position themselves for civic leadership opportunities.

CONGRATULATIONS TO CUP MEMBERS
  • 2016 CUP Fellow  Nicole Lester Arrindell , Staff Attorney in the Consumer Rights Project at MFY Legal Services ("MFY"), has been selected to receive City & State's 40 Under 40 Rising Star Award. Each year, City & State selects forty individuals under forty years old that they think are rising stars in the government, advocacy, media and lobbying world.
  • 2016 CUP Fellow  Matthew Fernandez Konigsberg, Special Counsel, Ethics, Risk And Compliance Department Of State for the State Of New York,   was elected Regional President of the Hispanic National Bar Association - Region II (New York), and sworn in at the HNBA's Annual Convention in Chicago on September 9, 2016
  • 2016 CUP Fellow Darryn Lee, Associate at BlackRock, recently received the Professional and Community Achievement Award from World of Money, an organization that provides an immersive technological and financial educational experience to youth.  
  • 2016 CUP Fellow Jeff Roth, Deputy Commissioner of NYC Department of Veterans' Services, was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army National Guard, signifying the President of the United States' trust and confidence in his patriotism, valor, fidelity and abilities.
  • 2009 CUP Fellow Natasha Holiday, Director at RBC Capital Markets, was recognized as one of The Bond Buyers' 2016 Rising Stars. To read more about Natasha, click here.
  • CUP Member Lee Pham, Director of Global Intellectual Property Strategy / IP Law & Strategy at American Express, recently took over as Chair of the Black, Asian & Latino Law Student Assoc. (BALLSA) Alumni Group of the Cardozo School of Law.
