& Events Vote Bloomington Best for Food - Visit Bloomington has joined Rand McNally and USA TODAY's Best of the Road contest and is encouraging people to vote for Bloomington in the "Best for Food" category. From now until May 15 people can log on to www.bestoftheroad.com and vote for the "best of" in five different categories. Votes allow the chance to earn a stop on the 2012 Best of the Road Rally, where a road team visits the community to experience for themselves, all the culinary delights Bloomington has to offer. Winners will be announced at the annual Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) convention in July. Please log on to the site, register and vote for Bloomington as the best food town.
Kelley School of Business Offering Consulting Opportunities to Chamber Members - Business Consulting is a graduate-level course in the Kelley School of Business. Students in the class participate in semester-long consulting projects for businesses. Types of projects include the following: benchmarking, business plan development, business process improvement, feasibility study, strategic review of pricing, profitability analysis, and marketing research. In previous semesters, students have worked with many local businesses and non-profits. City Announces Second Annual Bike Summit - Mayor Mark Kruzan announced today that the Second Annual Bike Summit will be held on May 10 at City Hall from 4:00-7:00 p.m. as part of the continuing effort to make Bloomington a Platinum level Bicycle Friendly Community by 2016. The Bike Summit will reflect, innovate and respond to strategies identified within Breaking Away: Journey to Platinum. The League of American Bicyclists has recognized Bloomington as a Bicycle Friendly Community since 2003. Breakfast Buffet to Support the Red Cross - Enjoy a delicious breakfast buffet on Saturday, May 12 between 8:00-11:00 a.m. at American Legion Post 18, 1800 W. 3rd Street in Bloomington, and support the Red Cross. Tickets are $6 each, and can be purchased in advance at the Red Cross Chapter or at the American Legion the morning of the breakfast. 100% of the proceeds will benefit the local programs and services of the Red Cross. Community Kitchen's Palette to Palate Fundraiser - Community Kitchen's annual fundraiser, Palette to Palate, will be held on Saturday, May 12 at 6:00 p.m. at the IU Auditorium. This event includes a silent art auction with dinner and live auction to follow. Live auction packages include IU basketball tickets, local adventure, arts & fun, as well as exciting packages including a South African photo safari, trips to Ireland, New York, Napa Valley and Gatlinburg. Ride for the Red Motorcycle Ride - The Monroe County Chapter of American Red Cross announces its second annual Ride for the Red motorcycle ride to honor military heroes on Saturday, May 19. Registration will be from 9:00-11:30 a.m. at Harley-Davidson/Buell of Bloomington. Registration fee is $20 for drivers, $10 for riders. The ride will end at the American Legion Post 18 on West Third Street in Bloomington, where riders will enjoy a BBQ, music, raffles and prizes from 6-8pm. PALS Holds Mane Event - People & Animal Learning Services (PALS) invites you to the PALS Mane Event in Alumni Hall at the Indiana Memorial Union on June 1 at 6:00 p.m. The evening includes wine/beer tastings from local companies, dinner and hors d'oeuvres, as well as silent and live auctions. MOSAIC Presents A Diversity Film Festival - The City of Bloomington Community and Family Resources Department's Diversity Theater presents MOSAIC: A Diversity Film Festival. The festival's main event is a showing of Joe Pantoliano's "No Kidding! Me 2!" at 1:00 p.m. on May 12 at the Monroe County Public Library. The showing is part of Mental Health Month and will be followed by a discussion from 2:25 to 4:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

City Announces Applications for Citizens' Academy - The City of Bloomington Housing and Neighborhood Development (HAND) Department announced today that applications are available for its Citizens' Academy program which provides participants with an interactive learning experience about municipal government services, programs and responsibilities. The 2012 Citizens' Academy will meet weekly from August 16 through October 11. The deadline for applications is Monday, July 16. City Celebrates Be Kind to Animals Week - The City of Bloomington is recognizing Be Kind to Animals Week, May 5-13 in conjunction with American Humane Association's annual national celebration. The American Humane Association has celebrated Be Kind Week since 1915. One of the most meaningful ways to "be kind" to animals is to adopt a shelter animal that is in need of a loving home.
