July 2017
Welcome to our new monthly newsletter!
While we've loved sharing a monthly volunteer newsletter AND our less frequent but still beloved  Legacy newsletter, we thought it was time for a bit of a face lift.

Starting this month, we'll be rolling out one monthly newsletter to all of our volunteers, community supporters, hospital partners, donation advocates, board members and other mission-connected readers.

The same wealth of information will still be provided, but on a more regular basis and in a cleaner, fresher format. Volunteers will also continue to receive regular email updates with ongoing events and volunteers opportunities. Let us know what you think of the new layout!

Thank you to all those who work each and every day, giving your time, compassion and dedication to making more life possible. And a very special thank you to each and every person who says "yes" to the giving the gift of life, providing hope, healing and love to those waiting. We at CDT are forever grateful to you!
What We've Been Up To:
A look back to the happenings, events, and outreach initiatives of the past month or so.

On June 1st, Donate Life Vermonters joined the Mayor of Montpelier and Reg Green, the father of superhero donor Nicholas Green, to share their stories and celebrate the incredible advancements Vermont has made in registering organ, eye and tissue donors. Thank you to all the Vermonters who registered to donate life and give hope to those waiting for a lifesaving transplant! Read more about the day here.

On Sunday, June 4th  we held our annual Donor Family Picnic at the Saratoga State Park. The rain held off long enough for families to mingle, enjoy lunch, and say hello to South Paw (the Tri-City Valley Cats Mascot)! We finished off the day with a beautiful
butterfly release, celebrating loved ones and all those who have so graciously given the gift of life.

Friday, June 23rd we joined together with Mohawk Valley Health System's Faxton St. Luke's Hospital to re-dedicate the John Weakley Donor Memorial Garden. Sue McKinstry and Donna Sickler, two of CDT's key liasons at the hospital, helped to coordinate the event in conjunction with the Weakley family.  It was such a moving ceremony and a powerful testament to the gift of life and love that donors give to families and recipients everywhere. The garden was named in honor of longtime CDT volunteer, beloved community member and heart transplant recipient John Weakley.

13 Capital Region volunteers selflessly gave their time on June 27th to make a total of 11 no-sew comfort blankets for donor families. These blankets are provided to donor families to provide a bit of extra hope, comfort and warmth as they go through their loved one's - and their own - donation journey. Interested in learning more about the no-sew comfort blanket program? Email [email protected]!

A look at this month's events and opportunities

On Friday, July 7th and Saturday, July 8th, Donate Life: Utica volunteers will be overseeing a table at the 2017 Boilermaker Expo! They'll be answering questions, registering donors and raising awareness about the lifesaving impact of organ, eye and tissue donation!

We'll be hanging out in our very own booth at the Ironman Lake Placid village on Thursday, July 20th - Saturday, July 22nd from 9 am  - 5 pm! THOUSANDS of people attend this event each year, making it a phenomenal opportunity to raise awareness about donation and register community members on the state donor registry (or out of state donor registry, depending on where they are from).  Volunteers are needed to assist in covering the table: please email [email protected] if you're available to volunteer in Lake Placid for ANY amount of time on Thursday, Friday or Saturday.

Join us after the 2017 Ironman Lake Placid on Monday, July 24th for The Way Back: Recovering and Reclaiming Your Life, an inspiring wellness workshop, featuring yoga, mobility training, notes from transplant recipient, cancer survivor and 5x Ironman athlete  Derek Fitzgerald! We'll have information set up starting at 10 am and the event is FREE and open to the public.
