This is the third issue of the ReadySet New Student Newsletter.  If you did not receive the first two issues of the ReadySet New Student Newsletter, you can read them through the Newsletter Archive on the ReadySet website.  Don't forget to regularly check your syr.edu email account!
Complete the Orientation Registration Form
Deadline is July 15

All new first-year and transfer students need to complete the Orientation Registration Form to register for  Syracuse Welcome , new student orientation; pre-orientation programs or International Student Orientation; and their  Syracuse Welcome 
Arrival and Parking Pass. 


If you need to change your information on the Orientation Registration Form, complete the Orientation Registration Update Form  and the Office of First-Year and Transfer Programs will process your changes.

Pre-Orientation Programs
Get an early start on your SU experience!
 
Get an early start on your Syracuse University experience by participating in a pre-orientation program. These programs enable you to make connections early, get familiar with our campus and community, and have fun.  Space is limited, so sign up early.   Registration deadline is July 15th. There are programs for all interests!  

2018 Pre-Orientation Programs include:
  • Access 'Cuse
  • Commuter Students Unite: Learning to make the most of your time on campus
  • `Cuse First (for first generation college students)
  • FreshFest
  • Leadership Outdoor Orientation Program (LOOP): Adirondack Adventure
  • Leadership Outdoor Orientation Program (LOOP): Odyssey Adventure
  • Transfer Transitions (for transfer students)
  • Transitioning Military Veterans to University Life
For more information, visit the  Pre-Orientation Programs website.  If you've already completed the Orientation Registration Form and would like to sign up for a pre-orientation program, complete the Orientation Registration Update Form to add the pre-orientation program to your registration.

Placement Exams
Complete your required exams soon

All new SU students are expected to take all applicable placement examinations before requesting classes.  Each school or college requires different placement exams, so be sure to check with them to see what you need to take!
 
Math Placement Exam:  If you wish to take or need to register for a math class, you must take the placement exam available at  myslice.syr.edu

Foreign Language Placement Exams:  If you have any previous instruction in, or personal experience with a language and plan to continue studies in that language, you must take the appropriate foreign language placement examination.  To be properly registered, you must take the appropriate placement exam online at  myslice.syr.edu before submitting your course request forms.

English Language Assessment Exam:  Non-native speakers of English must take the English Language Assessment Exam in-person in August. Please register for the exam at  http://bit.ly/ELAEFall2018.

Syracuse University Bands offer a variety of opportunities for you to continue your music studies and performance.
The SU Wind Ensemble
SU Concert Band
The "Pride of the Orange" Syracuse University Marching Band (no audition to join; featuring winds, percussion, and a color guard; meets during fall semester only)
Sour Sitrus Society - Syracuse University Pep Bands (plays for both basketball teams and a variety of other events; rehearsals Monday evening 8:30-9:30)

Crouse Chimes

The Crouse Chimes  were first installed in 1889 and renovated in 1981, the Crouse Chimes are rung at least twice a day and again on special occasions. John Crouse purchased the bells on May 25, 1889, from the Meneely Bell Company in Troy, NY. For 54 years, the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity played them, including playing the Alma Mater at 5 p.m. every day.
