We have been wowed by the talented local artists who volunteered to transform a door from the ReStore for our "Habitat Unhinged: 20 Doors for 20 Years" auction.

They all answered the question, "What does home mean to me?" and the results have been astounding.

Each artist brought their own style and flair to the doors, from Tony Harris's photo realistic Canadian flag and Jill Alexander's intricate double-sided black and white design to Tara Pocket's delicate watercolour landscape, Kathy Holick-Fisher's detailed countryside image and Cindy Laneville's shimmering mosaic glass house.

Blitz Build: 3 Partners, 3 Days, 1 Great Cause

We're very excited to announce that we've joined forces with the Greater Ottawa Home Builders Association (GOHBA) and Algonquin College to do a Blitz Build in Ottawa April 4, 5 and 6!

"Our aim is to have the home 99-per-cent complete after three days, sell it, and raise $250,000 to give to Habitat NCR so they can build more homes," says John Herbert, GOHBA's Executive Director.

The three-bedroom, two-storey home will be built on a serviced lot supplied at a reduced price from Tartan Homes and using plans for their Lindsay model. Members of the homebuilding industry are being asked to either donate supplies or labour or provide them at cost for the project.

Teams of Algonquin students will also be on hand, helping with everything from construction, website design and public relations to food service and site safety.

If you would like to donate supplies or funds, click here or contact Valerie Newton at development@habitatncr.com or 613-749-9950 ext. 233.

Builders' Club: It's never been easier to give!

This year we're offering a special promotion in honour of our 20th anniversary. Stay tuned for more details!

REALTORS Care Foundation Gives Back

Special thanks to the REALTORS Care Foundation for their long-time support of Habitat NCR. They have been donating to shelter-based causes since 1967.

We're pleased to announce that they will be returning as a 2014 sponsor. Lynne Faucon recently presented George Hendry, Habitat NCR's interim CEO, with a cheque for $5,000.

New Horizons: Habitat NCR Launches a Travel Club

Thanks to our partnership with Bytown Travel, this Habitat fundraiser will involve exciting 10-15 days trips to exotic locations. Each travel package, which will be attractively priced under $3,000, will include your flight, accommodations, travel in country, sightseeing, shopping options and some meals. It's a great way to meet like-minded people and make new friends.

We need your help to determine where we should go next with Habitat NCR's Travel Club! Please click here to fill out our short survey -- it will only take a few minutes and we will choose one response to win a Habitat NCR T-shirt.

Evergreen Celebration

We love Chris Smith at Habitat NCR! He's been donating the proceeds from his annual Christmas tree and wreath sale since 1999. These legendary evergreens have a very loyal following!

He stopped by our office on Walkley Road earlier this month to present a cheque to George Hendry, our interim CEO. This year's donation was for a remarkable $3,100! Thanks Chris!
