Poverty reduction: women's voices, women's solutions

Did you know that one in five people living in our province earns less than a living wage? And that women over the age of 20 represent the majority of low-wage workers? In Calgary alone, you could fill the Saddledome more than four times with the 81,400 women who earn less than a living wage. Public Interest Alberta released these low-wage statistics just prior to Alberta's increase in minimum wage on September 1. Read more.

Community Events
Take Back the Night Calgary is an annual event dedicated to raising awareness and protesting against violence against women. Join the Women's Centre as we rally, march through the streets and raise our voices in support of ending all forms of violence against women.
Upcoming Workshops

Come spend a fall evening with us walking, talking and hearing stories about women who have shaped our City. In collaboration with Calgary Sexual Health Centre and Take Back the Night Calgary we will also discuss current issues facing women and ways to get involved. Everyone is welcome.

Human Trafficking | Sept 17 (6-8pm)
Learn about situations in which women and young girls living in Alberta are trafficked for the purpose of sexual and labour exploitation. Together we will explore ways victims can be identified and supported.

Join us to cook and share a Colombian meal while talking about women's issues in Colombia. All supplies provided.

Equality and Transwomen | Sept 26 (6-8pm)
Living between the lines of our social binary, transwomen are shunned by men for giving up their perceived male privilege and denied acceptance by the cis-gendered women who feel threatened by them. Discuss the reasons for this animosity, solutions for change and ways to get involved.

Yoga | Mondays (6-7pm)

This gentle yoga class is for all body types, age groups and experience levels. No previous yoga experience is necessary. All yoga supplies provided.

All of our workshops are free to attend.
