During this busy produce season, we're excited to announce the launch of our new Veggie Valet program! If you have ever struggled with carrying your groceries all the way back to your vehicle when you are done shopping, keeping your kids in tow with armloads of veggies, or simply getting around the Market with your local haul, you're going to love the Veggie Valet. This program is managed by three interns from Partners for Youth Opportunity, an organization that
provides Durham youth with opportunities to connect, develop, and contribute through mentoring, employment and educational support. Say "Hi!" to our interns on Saturday and drop off your bags while you shop and enjoy the Market community.

A message from the Veggie Valet interns:
Veggie Valet is a program that helps customers by holding their groceries while they continue to shop and loading them into their car. The program is free to Durham Farmers' Market customers but we are accepting donations to cover the cost of supplies. The Veggie Valet tent is located on the corner of Foster and Hunt Street right beside the ATM!

Honeygirl Meadery
Honeygirl Meadery is a small urban meadery in downtown Durham making an ancient craft beverage for modern days. Mead is essentially wine made from honey, with many different styles that include additions of fruits, flowers and herbs. Our meads are hand-crafted libations made in small batches, using both local and global true source honey, local fruits, herbs and flowers. They are naturally gluten free. Our downtown Durham Tasting Room is open on Saturdays from 1-6 pm and Sundays 1-5 pm.

This week we will be sampling: our Strawberry Mead, made with local strawberries from McAdams Farm fermented with NC wildflower honey. This mead is like the strawberry season captured in a bottle, fresh and fragrant, light-bodied and dry, with a soft, lingering strawberry finish. Try it with champagne for a brunch mimosa.

We will also be sampling our oak-aged Wildwood Mead, almost two years in the making. Made with dark NC wildflower honey with strong buckwheat, molasses and sorghum notes, aged on French oak. Deep, rich honey with butterscotch and vanilla notes.

And we will be sampling our Lavender Mead, one of our favorites for relaxing and porch settin'. This mead is made with orange blossom honey and local lavender from Sunshine Lavender Farm. It is floral, earthy and a bit savory, lightly sweet, making it perfect with a cheese plate, light summer salads, or with dark chocolate cake. Come by for a taste!

We will also have bottles available of our Orange Blossom Mead, summery and lightly sweet traditional mead made with orange blossom honey; and our Fig Orange Mead, semi-sweet and delightfully nuanced, made with caramelized figs, wildflower honey and orange blossom honey.

Chapel Hill Creamery
Fresh Mozzarella  this Saturday ! Use for Caprese salad with tomatoes and basil or for melting with your favorite squashes or eggplant dishes. We will also have Dairyland Farmers cheese, Hickory Grove, Carolina Moon, and Pheta. The Dairyland Farmers is a fresh, unaged cheese that is moist and a little tart; use it on tomato sandwiches or in Chile Rellanos. Carolina Moon which is in the family of Camembert and Brie is a favorite for an appetizer.

Hickory Grove Cheese is our own recipe and has a luscious texture at room temperature and is fabulous for melting. Great for snacking or melting. Pheta adds punch to any dish whether it's tabouli, a green salad, or in our recipe of green beans and pheta. All our cheese comes from the milk of our Animal Welfare Approved cows, and since they are Jersey cows, we have rich, delicious milk to use for flavorful cheeses.

Our delicious ground beef is back! Add some Hickory Grove cheese for a wonderful cheeseburger. We also have bacon, spare ribs, ground pork, and Mild Country Breakfast sausage. Stop by for meat or cheese for your summer menu or a picnic. See you at the Market on Saturday!

Terra Clotha
We all know that Durham is a fabulous place, a livable artsy town with great food, and a vibrant culture. (The Durham Farmers' Market is at the epicenter of all that, of course.) So as a nod to all that wonderful Durham-ness, we have come up with a T-shirt that celebrates the Durham spirit. We've used batik to create a starry night, and silkscreened a Durham design underneath. Trendy enough to wear to a Food Truck Rodeo in Central Park, hip enough to wear to a night out at DPAC or to a Bulls game. We've also got Durham-themed kids clothes. Because you're never too young to be cool.

Hand-dyed clothing from Terra Clotha. Allowing your wardrobe to reflect Durham's spirit.
