The action for SYA Volleyball doesn’t slow down over the summer months, as we are once again offering our very popular clinic series, and you can find all the information and register here.

And even though summer is barely here, we are already planning for fall. Registration for fall house and travel volleyball is now open here, and if you have what it takes to compete at the Club level, you will want to check back to our Club website in the fall for updates on our tryout dates and other Club information.

SYA Competition Cheer Achieves Extreme Success

SYA Extreme Competition Cheer's three teams competed at U.S. Finals in Virginia Beach, VA, on May 6, 2017.

Our Youth Level 1 team, Extreme Lightning, took home FIRST place and are U.S. Finals National Champions

Our Junior Level 2 team, Extreme Storm, and our Senior Level 3 team, Extreme Thunder, both took home SECOND place in their division.

All three teams had a GREAT 2017 competition season with Lightning going UNDEFEATED in all of their competitions. Thunder placed first at several competitions and was also won a Grand Champions title and a PAID Bid to US Finals.  Storm rounded out the season with several first place wins and were in the running for a paid bid to US Finals.

SYA Extreme Competition Cheer was re-established in 2013 with one team of 16 athletes.  Extreme is now FIVE teams strong, having two level 1 teams, two level 2 teams, and one senior level 3 team for the upcoming 2017-2018 season.  We strive to develop well-rounded athletes and our hard work has paid off as our Extreme teams consistently place in the top three spots at competitions attended.

For the 2017-2018 season, Extreme plans to travel to Orlando, FL, to compete in The One cheer competition.  Our full competition schedule will be posted to our website in August/September.

Athletes interested in Extreme Competition Cheer should contact our Commissioner, Tammy McCarron.

Have Old Soccer Uniforms?

A cornerstone of the U.S. Soccer Foundation, the Passback program has collected and redistributed over 900,000 pieces of soccer equipment to children in underserved communities since 2002.  The dedication of Passback's diverse group of collectors, which includes individuals, soccer clubs, community organizations, and private businesses, has allowed the Foundation to enrich the lives of many by providing desperately needed equipment.

SYA Travel Soccer will be in new uniforms for Fall 2018.  Led by our community service group, we want to collect as many uniforms (jerseys and shorts) as we can to send to the Passback Program.

For more information, pleascontact Scott Van Horn or Sean Burke. You can find more information about the Passback Program here.   Thank you for helping us help others

LAX4ACause Recognized by Congress

On April 27, 2017, Hon. Barbara Comstock recognized SYA, CYA, and Tatum Bulger in the House of Representatives for the success of the annual LAX4ACause event. This year, the event raised $22,000 for Special Love, a nonprofit organization that provides support and resources to children in the Mid-Atlantic region with cancer.

Previously, LAX4ACause has donated proceeds to the Wounded Warrior Project, the Fisher House Foundation, and more.

Pictured here is Damien LaRuffa, SYA Lacrosse Commissioner, who co-founded this event along with Scott Stewart, Vice Commissioner of SYA Lacrosse, and Chris Saben, CYA Lacrosse Commissioner.

Softball Has Another Great Season

2017 brought SYA Softball another exciting season! Team Firecrackers won first place in team banners on Opening Day, and Fireballs were runner up.  Although the rain found us this season, there were a lot of great games played.

Additionally, SYA Nights were held on various days at the local high schools giving the girls a chance to see softball at the next level.  Culminating the season was the annual All-Star game taking place the weekend of June 17-18.  SYA Softball would like to send congratulations to Concorde 5 District Softball Champions Centreville High School.

Additional congratulations to those players making the 1st Team All Conference Team, including SYA's own  Nicole Purcell, Courtney Conway, Janae Elie, and Mia Noel!
