Fluency Tips

Fluency is a skill that readers develop with practice. As students first learn to read, they are more focused on breaking down words, resulting in choppy and monotone reading. Fluent readers have developed the skills necessary to read aloud with accuracy, voice inflection (expression) and appropriate pace. Fluency is critical to successful reading comprehension, because students who are struggling to decipher each word will miss the content of the text they are reading. Read More...


  
Reading Buddy & Site Director of the Month
Congrats Reading Buddies of the Month - Colonial Hills UMC 
Colonial Hills United Methodist Church joined San Antonio Youth Literacy in September with a desire to partner with their neighborhood school, Colonial Hills Elementary.  Seventeen church members and staff were trained and hit the ground running. 
 
Shout Out to our January Site Directors of the Month - Serna ES!
San Antonio Youth Literacy began working in Serna Elementary in the fall of 2015, under the guidance of Instructional Interventionist Yvonne Jagge, Instructional Coach Erin Hausner and Family Specialist Mary Jo Rinaldo.  Together, these three worked closely with SAYL staff to ensure a smooth start to the school year, identifying the students for the program quickly and providing optimal tutoring times and reading locations for the Reading Buddies. Read More..
