February/March 2017

Looking forward to the year ahead, there are many events and program for juniors of all levels at Westlake Athletic Club. One of the hallmarks of Westlake Athletic Club is the comprehensive program so that players have a range of choices depending on their personal goals.  Some players have a more social approach while others want to pursue a more competitive path and WAC can provide the right program for all of these approaches.  For example, for players just starting out, there is Junior Development League and Junior League on Saturdays for eight week sessions.  For those who want a competitive team environment, Junior Team Tennis is a great option in the Spring or Fall.

The clinic program continues to offer the flexibility, attention to detail and variety of instruction that brings junior players to WAC on a daily basis.  There is Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels.  The Advanced clinic from 4-6 PM daily brings some of the top players out as they focus on preparing for tournaments, Junior Team Tennis matches and/or school team play.

On that note, we are highlighting our high school players in this newsletter in the article below, many of whom are playing in the top spots for their teams.
High School Player Highlights
The WAC Junior Program has many high school aged players who play for their school teams and who have participated and continue to play in many of the WAC programs including the clinics and Junior Team Tennis.*  Depending on the depth of each school team, the players are on either Varsity or JV teams.  High school players cannot play JTT simultaneously so high school players play 18u JTT in their off-season.  Many of our high school players enjoy participating in WAC clinics and events together even while they compete against one another on their high school teams!

Junior Team Tennis

The Fall JTT season has been very successful on many levels--beginner junior competitors gained match-play experience while those players with more experience were able to hone their skills and achieve significant wins.

Captains of these teams are volunteers and these teams could not have played without their involvement and support. Thank you captains!

Fall JTT Captains
10u Intermediate - Alex Panin
14u Intermediate - Christa Nonnemaker
14u Intermediate - Brooke Gabbey
14u Intermediate - Steve Felsen
18u Satellite - Barbara Madvin

Congratulations to the 10u Intermediate for making it to Sectionals!

Spring JTT  will start in early March and the 14u teams are full (ages 11 through 14) so if interested, a wait-list is available.  There are still one or two spots available for 10u.  Forms are available at the Front Desk. Players who have not played yet on a WAC JTT team will need a short assessment before being placed on a team.

If you have any questions about JTT, please contact Christa Nonnemaker, JTT Coordinator.
