On March 14
, the “shloshim,” anniversary of the horrific shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, our middle-school students created a 17-minute circle of protest against gun violence at Temple Sinai. With hand-made posters (now on display in the 2
floor lobby), a reading of victims’ names, Mourner’s Kaddish, special readings and discussion, our students experienced a Jewish values-based walk-out. Rabbi Gershon, Cantor Shemesh, the teachers and I were very proud of the thoughtful responses of our children, of whom we are very proud.
