. Although Jan. 29th is designated as a day for observance, congregations are welcome to recognize our relationship with this Companion Synod at any time suitable to an individual congregation. Materials are being prepared by the synod's Global Mission Team to assist with observance.

The MultiFaith Storytelling Institute
" focuses on teaching essential storytelling skills to clergy, lay leaders and students for use in sermons, pastoral counseling and spiritual direction. The year-long course begins with a retreat in Tampa in March. Rabbi/Musician Mark Novak, who was present at the "Understanding Jesus means Understanding Judaism" event in our synod last month, is among leaders with storyteller Renée Brachfeld and Rabbinic Pastor Shulamit Fagan. The Organist/Pianist is sought to be part of the congregation's vibrant ministry and music team. He/she will work closely with the pastor, Worship Team, ad Choir Director focused on providing quality music for congregation worship. The musician will play the organ/piano/keyboard for all regularly scheduled worship services (typically two per Sunday) and choir rehearsals on Wednesday evenings, as well as for special services. Diaconal Ministry: History, Formation and Spirituality
" introduces students to the historical, theological and social contexts in which the work of diaconal ministry has been expressed. The course also explores a theology of spirituality based on the Lutheran confessional writings and provides opportunity for the discussion and development of a baptismal discipline and
vocational discernment, particularly as it pertains to the diaconal calling
. An online component on Jan. 6-15 precedes the J-term study in Arizona. Tuition for the course, offered through Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. The Deaconess Community of the ELCA pays tuition, but books and housing are responsibility of the student. Link to online brochure
