Save the Earth and Give Your Old Books a New Life!

Saturday, April 14, 2012 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. bring your old books and magazines to the Library Board Room. NIU Cares volunteers will be on hand to help unload your vehicle and sort through all of the donations. Donations will be reviewed for possible addition to the library collection, the SPLAG Fall book sale or to be sent to International Paper for recycling. In the last three years, the library has kept more than 5 tons of paper out of the landfill by working with International Paper and reusing your donations.

Construction Notes

  • Remodeling construction will begin on Monday April 16th.
  • The project will be completed in 4 phases.
  • The first phase is scheduled to take about 8 weeks. This portion includes remodeling the big meeting room and the board room.
  • All meeting rooms are unavailable for use at this time and until further notice.
  • The library will be open during construction, though for safety and to keep the project moving, we may need to close the library or sections of the library temporarily. We will give notice whenever closings are going to occur.
  • Blue prints are available at the library.

You may wonder why the Sycamore Public Library is about to remodel. Isn't this a new building? Well, the addition was completed at the end of 1996 and the past 15 years have ushered in many unprecedented changes in technology and library services.

This remodeling project will help us to better serve you in this highly technological world while preserving the rich history of your library.

Here are some highlights of the upcoming remodel project...

New centrally located Circulation Desk

You will be greeted by library staff when you walk through the door!

Expanded Children's Department

With designated spaces for preschool & school age children

Enlarged Young Adult Area

A  place for teens to call their own

Improved Reference Desk

To support your information needs

Updated Meeting Room with Kitchenette

Space for community groups to meet

Greater access to technology

New computers in the children's department

Streamlined Staff Office Space

And a BOLD New Look!

We hope to see you Saturday and throughout the summer as we remodel and re-imagine the Sycamore Public Library.

Sincerely,

Sarah Tobias, Executive Director
