Serving Families of Children with Special Needs

Inclusion Program Manager, Kelvin Arenas
Children's Council's Inclusion program uses free and confidential counseling to connect families of children with special needs to child care. But program manager Kelvin Arenas does so much more than that.
"I feel like I'm creating these little maps for families so they don't get lost" jokes Kelvin.
Inclusion staff work with parents to understand the unique skills and needs of their child. Then, they take a hands-on approach by accompanying parents to meetings and interviews with child care providers.
Kelvin is happy to help parents in any way he can, and he says his door is always open.

Spotlight On: Janet Cody
New Inclusion Program Team Member
Janet Cody has a long history of caring for families. A former member of the Peace Corps stationed in El Salvador, Janet built strong relationships with the 60 families who lived in her small village. Upon returning to the United States, Janet knew she wanted to stay on course with the nonprofit sector.
Her compassion, expertise in counseling, and bilingual capabilities have benefitted Children's Council staff, not to mention countless San Francisco parents and children, since 2011.  Janet says she looks forward to joining the Inclusion team, and can cannot wait to support both families and child care providers longer-term. This transition comes at a perfect time; Janet starts her masters degree in marriage and family therapy, with a focus on art therapy, in the fall.
