Children's Council is updating the look of Children's News. Each issue will feature a topical story about the world of child care and early education. In coming issues, you'll find short profiles of the many people who come through our doors for services or to volunteer their time and talent to help us meet our mission. You'll also find news about upcoming programs at Children's Council, plus links to resources for families and child care providers.

Growing Public Awareness of Child Care
   

At Children's Council, we are excited to see a growing public awareness that access to quality child care is a "two generation" issue. This is an important step toward convincing government to increase the availability of child care subsidies for low-income families. Two recent articles from influential publications in Washington explain why investing in child care is good for children, good for working parents, and good for the economy as a whole.

Kaiser Partnership Promotes Children's Health
   

We are pleased to announce that Kaiser Permanente recently awarded Children's Council their coveted Community Benefit Grant. With this funding, Children's Council will work with a select group of child care sites in the mission district to improve nutrition and physical activity in their programs. Kaiser Permanente's support of our Healthy Apple Program promises to benefit preventative health by teaching healthy habits early.

Children's Council Pilots Sesame Street Workshops
 
In partnership with Childcare Aware of America and Sesame Workshop, Children's Council has been selected as one of only three organizations in the U.S. to pilot a new curriculum on child resilience. The program uses Sesame Street's lovable characters to help children build resilience, understand their emotions, and develop the skills they need to solve problems.
