Columbia, S.C. - As South Carolina's leader in the prevention of child abuse, neglect and injuries, Children's Trust will host its largest Prevention Conference Oct. 2-3 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.

Approximately 800 attendees are expected for the biennial two-day event, which brings together social workers, home visitors, counselors, program administrators and other child-serving professionals. With a theme of "Embracing Prevention, Empowering Communities," the conference will emphasize the role everyone plays in keeping children safe. It will feature more than 40 sessions over seven learning tracks and cover a variety of interests and disciplines.

Dr. Dan Siegel, Ashley Rhodes-Courter, Dr. Charlyn Harper Browne and Donna Jackson Nakazawa highlight the group of national and regional speakers available for interviews Monday and Tuesday to discuss child abuse prevention, child brain development, adverse childhood experiences, home visiting, race equity and inclusion, protective factors and fatherhood engagement.

Child Passenger Safety Summit Spotlights Life-Saving Work of Car Seat Technicians at Jones Bowen Awards Ceremony

The second day of the Prevention Conference also will feature the Child Passenger Safety Summit, which brings in car seat technicians from across the state to discuss the latest information on preventing catastrophic injuries in vehicles. This is an important training for technicians as they can earn the continuing education credits necessary to maintain their certification.

Select child passenger safety technicians will be recognized in eight categories for their life-saving work in the field at Tuesday's Jones Bowen Awards. Rep. Beth Bernstein of Richland County will be present to hand out the awards and salute the CPS technicians for their commitment and dedication.
