Second Sunday after the Epiphany

Weekly Chimes

OK, I'm sorry. Some have blamed the snow and unusual cold that we've lived with for a week on my CHIMES note. I apologize for whatever part I might have played. It has gone on TOO LONG now, and is interfering with everyone's life patterns. (On the other hand, I know better than to think my wishes and prayers had any more power than yours. Long ago I learned to not take credit for beautiful weather for parish picnics. Otherwise, there is a
flip side, and this is one!)

BUT, schools are still out - now one week. On my drive in this morning, the neighborhood roads are actually about as dangerous as last weekend because now we have the almost invisible ice pack. Therefore, against my hopes and optimism, I am calling off tonight's Wednesday night program. Everyone is safer to stay home. The roads might be worse tonight in the dark (but I am praying for this to all go away and leave happy memories of beautiful yards and kids sledding). I will email out the pdf version of our England Pilgrimage brochure as an attachment. Next Wednesday night we will have our Q&A on pilgrimage and have one of our two classes on John's gospel. I'm disappointed, but know it is the right thing. We will have Thursday morning Eucharist tomorrow, but please don't come if your streets are not cleared.

Sunday we are back in full swing. Sunday school classes are simply moved back one week. We are starting up a new class this Sunday for our high school seniors and any college-aged young people who are here. Holly Waide and John-Michael Payne are hosting "Coffee, doughnuts and Christian conversation" in one of the rooms in the education wing. I hear they live around the corner from Krispy Kreme, so they are the ones to sit with on Sunday morning.

Sunday morning, I will be preaching in the Gathering and Jacqueline Soltys will make her start with us at the services in the Church. Random Acts will be leading some of the music in the 9:15 service, so I will see you there, too! This Sunday we hear the call of Samuel the boy prophet and Jesus calling Nathaniel. Psalm 139, one of my favorites, recognizes that God who fashioned our physical bodies knows us inside and out. I look forward to a good morning of hearing and discerning together.

Ashley, Ben and baby Leia are home and well. I hope you keep safe and warm. I'm praying life gets back to normal (whatever that is) soon!

Happy season of insight and learning,

Pledge cards are in the back of the church & in foyer of the Parish Hall. Please complete and turn in a pledge card, even if you have an existing pledge that you plan to continue, or if you are not able to make a commitment. This helps the Vestry plan for our 2018 year!
