Fifth Sunday after the Epiphany

Weekly Chimes

Happy Wednesday to friends and neighbors!
BIG NEWS! Last night we were asked if we would like to have a bishop's visit for this Sunday. OF COURSE, WE WOULD. We have a class of adults who took the study with the Rev. Kipper deGavre last fall and are ready to be received or Confirmed. I had been trying to line up a church close by who had a bishop's visit scheduled where they could join with that church's celebration. Bishop Jay Magness had a cancellation in his visits so he is coming to us. +Jay retired last year as Bishop of the Armed Forces and is well known to us. For a while Jay and Carolyn attended ODEC before he was ordained bishop and moved to DC. He is now assisting Bishop Hollerith in our diocese part-time. We will have a reception following the 10:30 services to honor and give thanks for these people making new affirmations of their ministry and faith.
SO - if you were prepared and desirous of confirmation or reception but missed prior visits, send me a note right away and we can talk about whether this is a good opportunity for you. We have 8 now, but there may be more of you so, please call or email immediately. Bishop Magness will only be at the 10:30 service in the Church. I will preach and celebrate for 8:00 and 9:15. Jacqueline Soltys+ will have The Gathering.
Last Sunday we had a very positive and interesting Annual Meeting. You elected Meredith Guzman, Brennon Pope, Rebecca Barrio, and Mitch Bean to vestry. The youth elected Megan Barrio, so for our second time we have a mother-daughter team on vestry! The vestry elected Bill Waide as Senior Warden, following my nomination. We have an outstanding team again on vestry, and I am very pleased with where we are headed. We will publish an email next week with the full presentation for those who missed.
You have 24 hours to get in orders for Super Bowl Subs and chances on the game for the J2A fundraiser. Details below. Take it easy for your game prep, and help the J2A group get to England.
There is NO WEDNESDAY NIGHT PROGRAM TONIGHT. After the first two of a three week series were snowed out, we are just going to wait and start on Feb 21 for teaching. Remember, Wednesdays in Lent at Old Donation are "holy days of obligation" - so put them in your calendar now beginning with Ash Wednesday, Feb 14.
See you Sunday... come be with us, especially to celebrate these new Episcopalians!
Peace and blessings,
