While Rebetica music was customarily heard in intimate caf�s and coffee houses, on August 13 our Moorish-style sanctuary is the striking setting for this highly emotional, raw and earthy Greek music. Featuring Yaron Hanoka (vocals and darbuka), Avram Pengas (bouzouki and vocals), Nich Mandoukas (guitar and vocals), Steve Schwab (bass) and David Malka (drums).

MOCATALKS: Art, Nature, & Poetry: An Artistic Journey with Wei Jia

For painter Wei Jia, the label "contemporary Chinese painter" is an oversimplification of his identity as a transnational, multimedia artist. Expressionistic abstraction and traditional Chinese calligraphy burst in spontaneous flourishes throughout his paintings, creating a multi-layered sense of lineage that liberates his work from the limits of tradition. In conjunction with MOCA's latest exhibition, Oil & Water: Reinterpreting Ink, this MOCATALKS features a gallery tour and talk led by artist Wei Jia, who will reflect on his artistic vision, the elements of his work - from paper to calligraphy - and his techniques - repeated cycles of tearing, mounting and painting using handmade paper, gouache, and ink on canvas.

After my visit to Eye Solutions, people at school complimented me on my new glasses.

But they're not new. They're LIKE new. The man at Eye Solutions not only fixed a destroyed pair of frames, he made them look like they're fresh off the rack.

And he did it in ten minutes.

Be 911 Compressions Only CPR program equips New Yorkers with the skills to act in the event of cardiac arrest by offering free instruction across the five boroughs. The program, taught by certified FDNY EMS personnel, has successfully trained over 50,000 New Yorkers in compressions-only CPR.

Out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest is responsible for an estimated 160,000 deaths a year nationally. CPR, or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, is a life-saving technique that helps increase survival rates for victims of cardiac arrest. It works by maintaining blood flow to the heart and brain until help arrives.

One of the best if not my most favorite place for 小籠包 (soup dumplings). Their prices for the soup dumplings are on par with other restaurants around the area but I always preferred the taste here than say Joe's Shanghai. Especially the crab version I thought was really good and we almost always order at least one or two orders when visiting this restaurant.

I've been coming here at least few times an year now usually whenever visiting Chinatown. It's definitely getting more recognition and crowded during dinner hours but if you come for a early or late dinner usually there's no wait.

Other than the XBL some of my favourites are the Drunken Chicken, Vegetarian Chicken (which is just mushroom in tofu skins), scallion pancakes and also the beef noodle soup. I think this is a really authentic Shanghainese restaurant with really great appetizer and cold dish choices. Unfortunately I still haven't really try much of their main dish yet since I always come for just the first few pages of the menu so this rating might change if their entree doesn't really do justice.

But definitely 5 stars for their popular items and I really think you'll enjoy this place as well as the prices is pretty fair and definitely in my opinion one of the best restaurants I've had in Chinatown.

A Time In Quchi

Directed by award-winning writer-director Chang Tso-chi (though now controversial), A TIME IN QUCHI follows a boy's coming of age during his summer vacation in the rural Quchi. Away from the familiar high-tech gadgets, Bao begins to see his grandpa's idyllic life with a fresh eye and finds creative means to engage in the surrounding. With poetic visuals and sporadic touches of humor, the film deals with such deeper themes as loss, separation and secrecy. Nominated for the Golden Leopard Award at the 2013 Festival del film Locarno, A TIME IN QUCHI has brought back fond memories of Hou Hsiao-hsien's classic A SUMMER AT GRANDPA'S (1984).

NYC Department Of Small Business Services Announces Recipients Of Fiscal Year 2015 Avenue NYC Grants

The Department of Small Business Services today announced the 39 recipients of $1.4 million in Avenue NYC funding for FY15. Avenue NYC is a competitive grant program that provides funding for non-profit economic development organizations to implement commercial revitalization activities in the low and moderate-income districts they serve.

Avenue NYC also offers a number of capacity building initiatives to support the efforts of organization staff and Board Members throughout the City. Capacity building trainings include topics such as financial management, program evaluation, fundraising and strategic planning. In FY14, organizations that received Avenue NYC funding attracted 53 new businesses to their corridors, recruited 355 new merchants to new and existing merchants associations, and improved 12 storefront facades.
