International Health Food Cafe Opens on
Mott Street
A cafe that just opened on Mott Street aims to bring healthy, locally sourced food to the neighborhood - just like the meals the owners used to have in their native country of Australia.

Two Hands, at 164 Mott St., offers fresh-squeezed juices, smoothies and coffee and later this week will debut a menu of premade seasonal sandwiches and salads inspired by owners Giles Russell's and Henry Roberts' childhood foods.

MOCA offers 3 walking tours for groups:

Kamwo Herbal Pharmacy, 211 Grand St.

Kamwo, one of the oldest and largest herbal pharmacies in the country, is a vintage apothecary in action. The walls are lined with drawers of medicinal herbs, which herbalists measure out with handheld scales. While the store mainly caters to practitioners of Chinese medicine, it also sells over-the-counter remedies for common ailments, like coughs and sore throats, and herbal patches for sore muscles and arthritic pain. "We're like an herbal Duane Reade," says CEO Thomas Leung. English-speaking acupuncture students from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine are on hand every weekday afternoon to answer questions on a walk-in basis, and the shop hosts a student-run acupuncture clinic with $40 treatments (an appointment is required). For those in perfect health, Kamwo is also a great source for fine loose-leaf Asian teas and cooking ingredients like cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise and goji berries.
