Wilson Tang's Take on the "Myth of Chinatown Restaurants"
This article was written by Wilson Tang, who owns the Nom Wah Tea Parlor, Chinatown's oldest dim sum restaurant, and Fung Tu, a new spot on Orchard Street.
Chinatown remains incredibly diverse as an Asian dining destination. Most foodies dwell on dim sum and soup dumplings because it's what they've read about on Chowhound or Yelp. But there is an array of ethnic cuisine represented here, including Malaysian, Thai, Vietnamese, Taiwanese, Cantonese, Shanghainese, Fujianese and even Japanese! I'd encourage you to dig a little deeper, bring a Chinese friend along with you, if possible, and try something new! Cantonese cuisine in particular has deep roots in the neighborhood.

Graffiti and Bills/Stickers Removal Authorization
Under NYC Law, all property owners are required to remove, or arrange for the removal of graffiti from their property. The Chinatown DMA has contracted sanitation services for the district with Block by Block in an effort to help keep our district clean and graffiti free. Block by Block will remove all graffiti and bills/stickers upon permission of the property owner, subject to weather conditions and building/roof access where necessary.

2014 Chinatown Weekend Walk Is Here!

Chinatown Partnership/Chinatown Business Improvement District's 2nd Annual Chinatown Weekend Walk event is on Saturday, May 31, 2014. Event takes place on Mott Street, between Canal and Worth Street.
About Weekend Walk
Enjoy food, entertainment, bike riding, and Chinese & western chess. Fun for all ages!
Each year, the New York City Department of Transportation partners with community groups to present Weekend Walks - neighborhood events on multi-block stretches of commercial streets temporarily closed to vehicles and opened to walking and other activities. These multi-day events take place in all five boroughs from May through October.
Local merchants' associations, community groups, and business improvement districts host Weekend Walks as a fun way to highlight local businesses and cultural institutions. They create wonderful opportunities for New Yorkers to gather, see their neighborhoods in a new way, and relax on weekends.

Council Member Chin Hiring Community Liaison

Title: Community Liaison
Hours: M-F 10am - 6pm, coverage of night meetings and weekend events as needed
Salary: $30Ks, commensurate with experience
Summary of Position:
The Community Liaison will work with city agencies and social service organizations to help resolve issues that constituents bring to the office either in-person or by phone. S/he will attend local community meetings, including tenant meetings and Community Board meetings, and intergovernmental meetings on the Council Member's behalf. S/he may represent the Council Member at public and interagency meetings. The Community Liaison will work out of the District Office at 165 Park Row and report directly to the District Office Manager.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Speak with constituents over the phone and via email to get an understanding of their issues and connect constituents with government resources and social service organizations
� Attend Community Board, tenant, and other community meetings on the Council Member's behalf
� Report regularly to the District Office Manager on ongoing cases and update the Council Member on urgent issues that may need the Council Member's direct intervention
� Maintain relationships with local community leaders and report on ongoing community issues to the Council Member
� Along with other District Office staff, ensure that a Chinese-speaking staff member is present at the District office during open office hours (10am - 6pm) five days a week

Seven Four-Year Scholarships for $1,000 per year. (Total is $4000)

Two Four-Year New Immigrant Scholarships for $1,000 per year. (Total is $4000)
New immigrant student is defined as someone who arrived in the US after 1/1/11
